Featured Replies

Some New Zealand banks are now offering fixed term rates of 7.5% p.a. for a 9 month term.

May be usefull to some expats.

All the best.

and this is after the NZD has already tanked, so it probably shouldn't slide too much further. That's not bad actually.

Might see what my mum is up to, she should be locking in at those rates.

Reserve bank kept rates the same but threatened to raise if inflation keeps rising.

NZDollar shot up.

Saw today one bank ( Kiwi Bank ) offering 7.55% but not sure of the term. Will check.

Very good!

What about tax ect.

What is " your bank ".

P.S. you are probably right about NZD, maybe early next year.

BNZ are currently offering 7.4% for 120 day term. Re tax: you can sign a waiver which means they will deduct only 2% from your interest and you have no other tax liability.

I'm not sure about the future of the Kiwi. It's a bit erratic at the moment. 12 months ago the Aussie bought only 1.05 kiwi. 4 months ago it bought 1.25. Today it's buying 1.12. When it hit the 1.25 mark, pundits were predicting 1.33, but it seems to have strengthen since then.

-no tax!

-bank is Credit Suisse

In addition to the currency risk, remember there is no deposit insurance in NZ. So, if the bank fails you could lose it all.

with NZ being a harbour of instability and all....

the sheep must be getting restless!

They are for sure.

But nothing wrong with an unstable sheep if you have big gumboots ( wellingtons )
