Crystal meth bust was only 900 grams, not 2kg as initially reported, clarify Phuket police

PHUKET: -- Thachadchai Police have recalled their initial report about a multi-million-baht crystal meth bust at the Thachadchai Police Station, claiming that that bust was much smaller than initially reported.

Though it was initially reported that police had seized two kilogrammes of crystal meth – which would have a street value upwards of 6 million baht – police now claim that the weight of the booty was less than half that.

Pol Lt Col Nikorn Chuthong, deputy commander of Thachadchai Police clarified that the drugs police seized early this morning from three suspects from Suratthani were concealed in two packages, which together weighed only about 900 grams.

Based on the street value of B3,000 a gram, said amount of drugs could fetch about B2.7 million on the streets.

According to Lt Col Nikorn, the initial police report, typed and signed by all three suspects and several police officers, was “the wrong police report, sent [to the media] by accident.”

However, The Phuket News notes that the number “two” was hand-written in anient Thai character (๒), preceeding the typed abreviation for kilogramme (กก) while the rest of the report, barring signatures, was also typed (See photo).

That initial police report also listed a phone number of a woman named “Ann” who had allegedly hired the three suspects to deliver the drugs to an undisclosed location in Tha Reua in Thalang.

So is this a ' simple ' mathematical / clerical / administrative error or ... ?

Likely to be another unsolved mystery apart from the official version.

Rewards all around for exercising their technical skills in such a professional manner and accounting for the shortage. If it wasn't for that, I would have believed the excess 1.1 kg was resold or planted on other innocents, so as to extort bribes.

Understandable comments, which clearly shows the deepest rockbottom trust in everything with Law in its name.

A well connected (Army) fortune teller told the press it would take Khun Prayuth about 2-3 years to refom the country.

Without shock treatment he probabely had 20-30 years in mind!

2 lbs instead of 2 kg. That would still have given you a case of lead poisoning a few years back, and still will in Indonesia.

Sorry but office girl changed scales from gramms to Lbs and we did did understand.

Why is it that every low life seems to come from POOKET

There is no way that 900 gms could be mistaken for 2 kilos.

Phuket, close to Koh Tao and Samui Lots of bright police there

What an amazing coincidence, now the supply on the street won't decrease too much, as soon as the missing meth gets to market. Seriously, would anybody expect anything different. Amazing Thailand, gotta make you laugh!

Phuket that says it all, why dont they just say hay our mafia bosses needed half back, to pay off certain people then we would all say OK, then carry on as usual, and another day in Phuket

I had a buddy who was once busted with two pounds of weed, when he received the charge it was for possession of two ounces. What could he do? Complain to the judge about missing property? More like thank the cops for "miscalculating".

My little brother grew up in Toms River NJ and hung around with Seaside Heights cops, he said they always had the best weed by far.
