PHUKET: -- Police suspect that a British, New Zealand dual national found dead in his Phuket hotel room last night died from an ongoing medical condition.

The man was a regular at the hotel, which police declined to name, and checked in on October 22, said Lt Chamaiporn Suphakom of the Karon Police.

“Staff at the hotel said that the man was feeling unwell and last Wednesday (Oct 28) moved from his room on the second floor to one on the ground floor,” Lt Chamaiporn said.

Room service found the man’s body slumped in a chair in his new room yesterday evening, and reported the incident to Karon Police at 1045pm, he added.

“Room service served the man lunch at about 2pm yesterday and went back to collect the dishes after the restaurant closed at about 10:30pm.

This is a good friend of ours

Chemo and heart surgery since 2008, six weeks in Brisbane hospital this year July August, and headed back to Phuket to the Vegetarian Festival last month, an event he'd enjoyed each year. Last year, somehow he was serving noodles each night, Thai with a Queensland twang

We met at Thai language lessons 2009, common interests in surflifesaving, swimming. Spare time spent time sea kayaking off Nai Harn, snorkeling, swimming, boat trips and bus trips with me and my partner. A cup of tea in the company of the latest adopted soi dog, another travel plan, 'let's kayak around Phuket', always fun

Never gave up. Outlived every doctor's expectation.

Not many years back, birthday theme was 50 not out

My partner refers to him as 'crazy' in a good way, needed 'one more adventure'. Last Xmas, back to NZ to visit his parents, his goal was to make it to Anzac Day, and attend the ceremony at Kanchanaburi. He got there, paid his respects to a relative there . After that, cut short a trip to Myanmar, health, back to Brisbane for 6 weeks hospital, chemo and surgery. made it back to Phuket for vege fest, last email received was on Friday, about going to see Cirq du Soleil show in Singapore on the 13th before heading back to family in Oz, and intending to be back in NZ in February

This has not been easy to write

Genuinely one of the good guys

RIP and forever remembered, we'll miss you

The wonderful tribute you just paid is a really strong testimony to what sounds like an amazing person.

Would you be willing to offer me the same at some point?

Please contact me <removed> via PM

I appreciate your help.

I am sorry for your loss.

It was prescribed ! He suffered among others from back cancer, and flew back and forth between Phuket and Australia for medical reasons,he knew he would pass away before too long.

Condolences to his family and friends.

He had some serious medical issues. However, the oxycontin probably wasn't prescribed and could have caused his death.

RIP mate.

I ove the way the police always give the cause of death. They have no medical facts to support it. The pathologist is the only one who can say if he died from an ongoing illness not the police they are not qualified to make that call

Sad

Yes it is. But thats what happens when there's no police drug busts for the media to report on today, they'll sensationalize any farang death. And then they'll be immortalized by a TV topic and weird comments from strangers speculating about their death. Like this.

It outrageous this man's dignity and privacy is not respected by the media.

Gomangosteen, I had just about given up and was never going to open another post concerning a fahlung or foreigner's death on this forum again............until I read your post - Thanx for showing us the good side of his life, I thought it was kind of cheeky the way they showed a picture of all his Meds, suggesting something cynical. sinister. .........do you know if he will be returned to NZ or buried in Phuket which he obviously loved............
