HKAPANT, Myanmar (AP) — Brang Shawng had never written a letter to the president before, never even dreamed of it. But he'd heard that his country was changing, and that the military junta in Myanmar had given way to a civilian government. And he believed that in this acclaimed new democracy, he could find justice for a 14-year-old girl shot to death.

Thailand hosts Asia-Pacific Business Forum 2015

BANGKOK, 3 November 2015 (NNT) - Thailand is hosting this year’s Asia-Pacific Business Forum, attended by trade organizations and investment bodies from around the world.


Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai officiated the event, which was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in collaboration with the Trade and Industry Association of Singapore, the Pacific Islands Trade and Invest, and the Mekong Institute. The forum takes place at the United Nations in Thailand with over 300 attendees and will discuss regional cooperation in trade, investment and sustainable development.

The forum is seen by many countries as an important venue for exchanging information on regional development. Last year, the forum was attended by the President of Indonesia, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and Ministers from various countries.

Phuket beach management adjustments to be decided this month

New winter attraction site opens in Tak province

TAK, 3 November 2015 (NNT) - A new winter attraction has officially opened in Namtok Pha Charoen National Park that offers a spectacular mountaintop view in Tak province.


According to Namtok Pha Charoen National Park Chief Somchai Santhaweesook, the new tourist site is located on the mountaintop across from Phawo Shrine. The site is also the location of a fortress built during the reign of King Taksin the Great.

The new overlook is only 12 kilometers away from Mueang district, via Highway 105. The best time to see the sea of fog is from 6:00 – 10:00 hrs. It is said that the moon is still visible in the morning when the sun is rising.

Mr. Somchai said he will discuss the implementation of certain measures with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Phawo Shrine Foundation to make sure the environment around the scenic overlook remains unharmed by tourists.

Pistorius case being heard by Supreme Court of Appeal

BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa (AP) — A prosecutor on Tuesday sought a murder conviction against Oscar Pistorius before South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal, saying that a lower court erred in acquitting the double-amputee athlete of that charge for shooting his girlfriend to death, instead convicting him of culpable homicide.

Kun Lumyai housekeeping robot

BANGKOK: -- Media personnel take pictures of "Kun Lumyai", the housekeeping robot, which reportedly gained international recognition in a US-based robotics competition, during a press conference at Kasetsart University's Faculty of Engineering in Bang Khen Tuesday.

The robot will be on show at the Engineering New Gen 2015 event being held from November 18-21.

Phuket tour operators and taxi drivers warned of selling unwanted tours

Cabinet extends LTF benefits by 3 more years

BANGKOK, 3 November 2015 (NNT) – The Cabinet has approved the maintenance of tax privileges for people investing in the Long Term Equity Fund (LTF) for another three years.


Minister of Finance Apisak Tantivorawong announced that the green light was granted during today’s Cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, to his Ministry’s proposal to extend LTF benefits for three more years from the previous deadline set for the end of 2016. The objective of the extension is to promote long-term saving and build confidence among investors.

The Cabinet also agreed to an adjustment of the minimum holding period, increasing it from five years to seven years. Under the condition, investors will be allowed to make their purchase on December 31st of the first year and sell their holdings on January 1st of the seventh year.
