We're looking at the situation where a foreign man applies for an incountry extension of his non "O" visa on the grounds 'support wife' and where he is going for the version, where the financial requirements are intended to be met by monthly income averaging 40,000 Baht (rather than yearly proofs of 400,000 in the bank) .

Apparently, if I've understood things correctly, the new rules state that this requirement can be met if man and wife together have an average monthly income of 40,000 whereas before it was the foreigner alone, who had to have that income.

Well, for me (and I know I'm not alone) this means that if my wife has a (tax-free) income of 8,500 Baht/month - I'll only have to show tax-reciepts for 31,500 baht a month ...

If this is correctly understood - don't come to me and complain the Thai rulers only think of money and tax-income.

This is being discussed in this thread here, also, Sunbelt Asia kindly gave a link to what appears to be the official pronouncement here (PDF file) coming from Lawyer.co.th.

This document discusses all the visas, I think the Thai spouse regulation is on p 7.
