NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 3 November 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Interior has handed down anti-drought policy to all provincial governors via video conference.

Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Wichean Chantaranothai spoke on the meeting. He revealed that officials related to drought crisis prevention have been given a framework aimed at relieving water shortages.

According to Mr. Wichean, Permanent Secretary of Interior Kritsada Boonrat has stressed that all provincial governors must raise awareness among farmers of the impact of drought on rice cultivation, and persuade them to grow crops that require less water.

Cooperation has also been sought from both public and private food suppliers to source produce from local farmers.

This is what happens when you have bureaucrats do the planning. Who cares about reforestation, enforcement of forestry laws, prevention of land encroachment, watershed management, water catchment development and all that shi+...

These guys seem to have such a tunnel vision with regards to drought prevention... at least based on the OP.

To try and convince the population to save on water especially the farmers is a task of mammoth proportions , after centuries of plenty of water the ugly head of large a population and even less attention to water infrastructure along with lip service, the ministry presents a drought prevention policy , this I can only imagine would be the opposite of the PTP flood mitigation policy......

What is being called the Godzilla of all El Niños has been dominating world climate patterns for most of this year, and finally the junta have released their anti-drought policy.

1. Persuade farmers to grow crops that require less water!
2. Public and private food suppliers to source produce from local farmers.

This is certain to have a big impact on Thailand’s increasing water shortage.

Excuse my cynicism, but this is truly pathetic response, and will do nothing to assist those most in need now and into the next six months.

It just occurred to me that the solution for the floods could also be implemented for the drought. Get some of the biggest boats available and put them in the Chao Praya with their props pointed up stream to drive the water up and back into the dams. If you can use this tactic to push water out to sea you surely you can do it the other way around!
