PHUKET: -- A flock of new police officers has arrived on the island adding 200 more bodies to Phuket's force.

The new recruits, who recently graduated from the Provincial Police Training Center Region 8 in Surat Thani, were welcomed to the force on November 1, confirmed Phuket Provincial Police Deputy Commander Peerayuth Karajedee.

“With more officers we will be able to increase our capability and efficiency, as right now we are struggling with the large number of tourists compared to our small number of officers,” said Col Peerayuth.

“At this stage, we do not know when we will have more officers joining the force. It will take another year before a new group graduates are available. Meanwhile, we will do the best we can with what we have.”

Does the term "team-building exercises" equate to hazing?

there are far too many of these corrupt, uneducated, under trained BIB as it is. If they did their job instead of sitting o their asses all day only getting up when there is a pay day available, then the country could likely do with a fraction of the force they now have.

Fire the whole lot, reform the system and do away with the paying for your positions. Reduce the amount of police, pay the new force a livable wage, and hold all police fully accountable for any corruption or wrongdoings.

Can you imagine the income increase for the boss if you hired 200 more collectors?!?!? Man, that must be nice.

Really? There are a larger number of tourists than there were? Oh that's right, if you listen to TAT, there's always more! Good thing we still don't have a police station in Rawai, we just have the lazy and notably <deleted> police from Chalong who appear occasionally, mostly for a road block or a VIP escort to Promtep for the sunset…

And that's what it's really all about......a lot of tea money has gone nowadays....but more feet on the ground will balance things better!

They've recently left the regional training centre and are now ready to learn the real tricks of their trade !

So why, when they have just graduated from police training are they not in Uniform ready to perform their duties. Oh thats right they have to buy their own uniforms & guns. So untill they shake down more tourists they can't afford to do so.

'Recruits' usually have to pay to be posted to an A grade police district. Phuket is definitely A grade for its huge earning capacity.If this article is accurate then there will be alot of new cops around Phuket needing to pay off their debts.

I dont think travel agents discuss this subject with customers back home.

I happen to know a college friend of my wife who wanted to be transfered from Nakon nowhere to Phuket about 10 years ago. The going rate back then was 500,000 baht. He had 15+ year service earning about 20K/month salary. You do the maths on how much he had to 'make' back.

I have a feeling the 12 families of Phuket are stacking the police numbers, and have been, for some time.

I doubt many of these police, plus many existing Phuket police, were all transfered in, for payment.

I suggest, many of the police here were strategically placed amongst the ranks by those in real power on Phuket.
