Hey Everyone.

After all the reading and rumors I’m a little confused about my situation. This is my third trip to Thailand this year. My Thai boyfriend (we’re gay btw) was offered a great position here and after 8 years together in the states we decided to relocate. We knew it would be a challenge but also knew I could always fall back on the visa run thing……. Do you see where this is going?

My goal is to stay through December and return around March. I’m not too greedy and only expect to be able to stay in country 8-9 months of the year. At the moment I’m entering my second month of my tourist visa and hope to extend it another 30 days. I was then hoping to do a couple border runs to get me to the end of the year….. Does this still sound plausible? The border run after the visa is sounding a bit sketchy lately!

Just to complicate things …. Or make it better depending on your point of view. I have a client in the US that is paying me to monitor their production here. It’s developing into a regular thing. I know my client will supply me with the necessary documents for a business visa and I believe the factory will as well. The thing I’m unclear about is if I need a work permit. My position is an agent representing my client’s interests in Thailand to assure their product meets their specification. I also anticipate that I will be adding other clients and possibly changing factories. I haven’t seen a clear provision for this type of work in all the visa types available. Can anyone clarify what type of visa is best and if I need a work permit.

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes you do. You should get a non immigrant business visa NOW in order to meet one of the critera to get the work permit.

Do i have to apply for a workpermit if i get a multiple entry business visa?

No it is not required to get a work permit if you have a multi entry visa ( obtained at a Embassy/Consulate) .

Only if you are working, then you must get a work permit.
