PM to attend Apec, Asean summits this month

BANGKOK: Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will attend two summit meetings in the Philippines and Malaysia this month, Foreign Ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee said yesterday.

Prayut will leave for Manila to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which this year will be held under the theme "Building Inclusive Economics, Building a Better World" between November 18 and 19.

The summit has two major agendas: extensive growth through economic integration and growth through a sustainable and flexible community.

Sek said the Apec summit would have major objectives to promote trade as well as to support cooperation on society and development.

"The Thai prime minister will push for growth with quality and a fair economy so that all parts [of society] have equal access to the [benefits of] economic growth. This is in accordance with the United Nations' policy. He will also talk about the sufficiency-economy theory to be used in community development during the summit," the spokesman said.

Prayut will also talk to the Apec Business Advisory Council on enhancing the country's ability on international stage and bring the new renovation to apply with Thai economy.

The Apec meeting will be an opportunity for the PM to consult on a bilateral level with leaders from the Asia-Pacific region including Colombia, Peru, Chile and Mexico.

After that, Prayut will travel to Malaysia to participate in the Asean Summit to be held on November 21 and 22 in Kuala Lumpur. The summit will be conducted under the theme of "Our People, Our Community, Our Vision".

The country leaders will discuss the vision of the Asean Community in the next 10 years in order to specify the future direction that will have people as the centre.

"This summit is special because it is the last before the grouping officially steps into the Asean Economic Community on December 31. The leaders will review the progress of Asean's three pillars, namely political security, economy and socio-cultural aspects."

Bound to be another diplomatic tour de force as will be evidenced from the glowing compliments from the other delegates as released ONLY by the Thai Foreign Ministry.

Generally you need years of experience to be able to speak at these functions especially APEC , so Caretaker Prime Minister Prayut - O - Cha would need to be up to speed with his English and his Economics , there are some head bashers in this crowd who can pull any proposal apart like opening a can of Leo , I wish the Lad well on his trip and hope that when he address the APEC that their is more in the Audience than Prayut - O last visit to the UN when he addressed a empty auditorium , then APEC members will fully understand.......coffee1.gif

"the sufficiency-economy theory to be used in community development"

TRANSLATION:

"populist policies to be used in community developement"

Not very earth shattering except to the Prayut regime.
