Guys we are going off topic again here, I sense the MODS will close this thread as they did the last if we continue to talk about legal and boiler room stuff and owners.

The OP said;

Sign on the door says closed for renovations until November 25.....

Ominous.....

I can't really see the point of this thread, after the previous one that went on forever was closed.

Oh please, I've seen threads on avocados devolve into pages of controversy about the Chinese economy. Most points here are a matter of public record, anyway.

Back to somewhat on topic:

Well boys, for a mere 1.5 million you can own your very own sports bar and show 'em how it's done!

Well, for a sports bar with a decidedly Western angle and target clientele: not in Hang Dong, for starters.

For a regular restaurant: possibly. Especially as that whole area is getting quite popular now. You should see the Isan food place, it's doing incredible business.

Would be nice to get Rosewood back. The asking price is not completely crazy either; assuming the 1.5 mil can come down a bit, that's still somewhat okay given all the money spent on the furnishings, the kitchen, etc.

Possibly Duke's might be interested again.. decor is already somewhat in line with what they'd build anyway. Not sure they'd want to have a go in such an out of town location though. Rent / lease agreement could of course be an issue, not sure what that's like.

Let me make a bit of an analogy here, hopefully showing how stupid and ridiculous some of the posts become, when one posts, who may be too close to the forest to see the trees.

Say someone comes into my restaurant and buys a meal. At the end of the dinner they request the bill. To pay they pull out a thousand baht note,... I look at it and say back to them, " No, I can't take this bill, it came from ill gotten gain...... gimme that note over there , its an ok note.

Now for the more simple minded of the crew...... how in the world was CEC to know where an advertising money came from???? Did the advertiser get it from the sale of a house or car maybe, or maybe from some product they were selling..... there is no way of knowing.....So I think that its time to lay off the left handed insinuations that NancyL should in some way be at fault, due to knowing where the money came from.

It would appear that some want to pass on the buck to someone else rather than say, I, READ " I ", made a mistake and shouldn't have invested therein. Come on guys ....... ease off already.

Great avocados at The Sports Bar. Two guys dead, coincidence? Public record, who owns Dukes?

I agree with most of your points, though I suggest that calling other posters and their remarks stupid, ridiculous, or simple-minded is unnecessary, and frankly falls short of your typically witty, practical, cheerful comments.

I don't know of any Chiang Mai expats who bought sham stocks; the victims are in Europe, the US, Hong Kong, and Australia. So your final insinuation probably misses the mark. It's not wrong to wonder if someone has a grudge, agenda, or ulterior impulse, but wouldn't it be better to ask, rather than assume and lash out? You never struck me as the lashing type.

Back to the Game, I hope they find a buyer who will succeed with it, as there seems to be a thirsty clientele ready to give it a try, and why not?

In answer to the impolitely broached question.....Quote function does not work.....

The other Game thread is closed....That thread ran the gamut and ran long.....There were well wishers/customers/theorists espousing everything from why it was there to how bad a person was that managed the place/dirty laundry technical questions/everything short of a betting pool on when it would die..... So → there was no shortage of questions.....

Then - I discovered something happened - it shut down.....

Given the interest shown here before & trying to save someone else an empty trip I posted.....If you don't like ---- then YOU don't like it.....Seems to have interested others.....

The quotes work for me!

Sorry but I cant be sure which question or who you are replying to. Is it me?

BTW thanks for the informative post I am sure it will save some people a journey, very helpful.

Now what's the deal with that Issan food place, from my dear learned friends' previous post, it would seem that such a question isnt straying too far lol!

I am back in town in two weeks so keen to have some nice thai food and some beers? I am actually. ear Nong Hoi now, are there any big screen thai bars nearby similar to those that I have been to before in Santitham and near COmputer Plaza before? Nimmhamen I know has a lot from the threads on here but thats an awful long way to go. Or should I start a sports bar or large tv thread where asking where they do beer promotions ;-)

Thanks all, keep up the good work!

Nice place, busy, not expensive, fast service.

But people on the forum mostly don't care unless it's owned by the Dark Lord of the Sith himself.

Agreed.. I think theres quite a large amount of expats out this side, certainly enough to keep a bar / sports bar / restaurant etc open.. And agreed that (given its an asking price) for the fit out and location its not that terrible. The right owner could at least make a go of it.

Now if someone can just convince Rob he needs a southern Sausage king location, thats my local breakfasts set ;)

Once a business has closed it's doors then it's resale value is drastically reduced because 'good will' is no longer a part of the deal. The reality is that the only value left is for secondhand tables, chairs, equipment etc. with maybe a small value to any refurbishments. I see that Player's ( opposite corner to River Market, near the iron bridge) is now available for 1.2 m baht, from an original asking price of 3million, unbelievably. Since it is now closed it is still an overvaluation.

I've seen bars for sale at ridiculous prices and when a realistic price is offered it get's turned down because the owner still thinks he can get his asking price, to only end up having a fire sale months later, when there are no takers. My advice - be realistic with the price, and seriously consider all offers, because the resale value of secondhand equipment isn't much, and can take months to sell. Paying rent on a business that has closed the doors for months isn't a good option either.

If the rent is too high, a place could easily have a negative value. Player's had very good reviews....night and day vs. the Game...I wonder what the rent is.

The Players bar has 7 out of 16 Tripadvisor reviews that are all Excellent, from reviewers with 1 contribution!

John's Place has 47 that rate it "poor" or "terrible."

Fwiw, The building itself and the contents are beautiful. It really is a nice establishment, it was managed quite poorly. The negative comments in this thread are accurate for the most part. If a reasonable sale price was set, a person with a decent business sense should be able to get in there and make it work. My guess is the selling price will be way too high, and it will sit still for a while.

Especially if the business never really got going to begin with, without a paper trail of profit, regular customers, trained staff, a brand... In that case it's not a business at all, but just a bunch of stuff and a sign.
