Hi All,

Just like to let you know that I received last week a double entry tourist visa in Hong Kong. Probably one of the last to be issued I guess!

No hassle, Just handed over application and money and they issued it. They said I need to use it within six months.

Two questions:

1. The validity date (six months after issue) is the last day to make my 2nd entry, which means if I enter before this date I am permitted to stay after the validity date. Is that correct?

2. If I want to extend to the 60 day entry, how many days before expiry should I go to the immigration department, so I can extend an extra 30 days? I want to go as early as possible.

Many Thanks

  1. Yes. You can enter on or before the 'enter before' date and you'll be granted a 60 day stay.

You're granted 60 days on entry that can be extended by 30 days. You can apply within 7 days but some offices may let you apply within the last couple of weeks.

1, The expiration date (enter before date on visa) is the last day you can use your visa for entry. It does not limit the amount of time you can be in the country.

2. You can do the extension about 2 weeks before the 60 days ends. Some offices might do it earlier.

First of all, thanks for all the responses and confirmation.

The application in Hong Kong requests to have confirmed return flight or an itinerary, but they did not ask or check any flights or hotel bookings. I did have it because I have a travel plan anyway. Maybe I was just lucky but I also had a fresh passport. Hard to say.

These are the documents they looked at in my case:

A copy of main pages of a passport including the last arrival Hong Kong stamp.

A valid at least 6 months passport with a clear page for a visa sticker.

One application forms must be completely filled out in English ( CAPITAL LETTER)

One recent photos, 2x1.5 Inches in size, with clear face, taken within 6 months.

Of course Laos maybe different.

Thank you for the update on their requirements and current policy. Laos is different, but I am considering going to HongKong instead. Cheers!

Hey,

sorry for bumping old thread, but no need to start a new one for same boring question.

I'm going to need a single entry Tourist Visa in December, and I'm thinking of going to HK for a week or so, and get the visa there.

Is there anything I should know, I haven't been to HK Thai Consulate in several years? Basically I can go anywhere, but HK is my first choice since I haven't visited for a while.

Or should I do the Penang sure shot agent run?

The reason I'm asking for peoples recent experience is my last winters KL trip, and the comedy of Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. I was denied a a single entry TV there in January, first ever of my 12 winters in Thailand. Normally I get a trile entry from Helsinki, I didn't last year, so in the middel of my stay here I needed another 60 days.

Man.. if I describe the experience in KL you would not believe it!

Day 1 I go to Embassy, all paperwork with me. The lady behinf the glass asking why am I going to Thailand. I tell her for holidays :) She asks me why holidays so long. I tell her I do this every winter, I'm etired, I retired in my 20s. She then goes to speak to a man, who stands behind all desks and watches the room like a hawk. They talk for 10 seconds, she comes and hands all my papers back to me, no Mr, we need Bank statement, tickets. Allright, since I was in KL for a week, I thought no prob, I get all that and tomorrow all will be fine.

I print out my internet bank page with name, account No, balance.. Both Swedbank, Swedish largest bank, and Kasikorn, just in case. I print my return flight for March. So full of confidence I go back next morning.

'Nooo, Mister! Bank letter! Manager signature! Bank stamp, mister!'

Victoriously I then present my Kasikorn printout, and my smartphone, looged in to my K-Bank, think yeah, I got u now!

Nope!

'Manager letter, stamp, signature, mister!'

She wasn't interested at all looking at my K-Banking online page, where balance is clearly visible.

the KL Embasssy is not there to issue visas, that is for sure! Cos if I dont qualify for the simplest single entry visa, I dont know who does. But this was last Jan, things may have changed. Still tho, I would recommmend NOT TO GO TO anywhere near KL Embassy. So I'm wondering about HK. Maybe Im better off going to Penang, or Laos where I've never been before.

So I left and received another 30 day visa waver stamp at DM, and then 30 days later took another flight to Singapore, to be here until my flight back to Europe in March.

This is insane. But here I am again this winter. But truly, this may be last, not the hostile immigration policies, I'm bored here, so it;s both, I'm bored and they make it hard to spend 5-6 winter months here.

I have no family here, no romance. I used to. So I pity the guys who are struggling to be here now. Every months I withdraw 60-100k and spend it walking around. Yet I'm not wanted. This is so insane, but hey, its their country.

If they don't want to get rid of people like me, they're not hiding it well lol.

Hence my question, should I go to HK in December, or do the Penang, or Phnom Phen? I don't like Penang, so boring!

Canadian passport. Any recent experience with SETV appriciated!

I can only say that I did not have any problem in Hong Kong. Super efficient and very quick. 10 minutes to give in my application and next day 5 mins to pick it up. They did not ask me for any flight tickets but I had them prepared anyway. They did flick through my passport (presumably looking for visa and stamps), but since I had an absolutely fresh passport with not a single stamp or visa from anywhere, there was nothing they could find to look at to make any thoughts about "having too many visas".

I also put down in the application that I was retired but they did not ask for any financial proof. No issues or hassles of any kind with me. Sorry nothing spectacular to report about.

Like Ubon Joe mentioned above, you may need to show a outbound journey because that is also part of the application requirements (check the website)
