Is anyone having problems with their ais prepaid sim today? Here in Koh Lanta some people have had no signal on their phone all day, while others are fine- anyone else experiencing this today?

I had the same thing in Bangkok a couple of weeks ago. I got a message about not being registered when i tried to call but I did register. I switched my phone on then off again and all ok.

Strange!

I went to a local shop to put money on my phone about 1 hour ago and they could not do it. Maybe AIS does have a problem. My sim card is registered so that was not the problem.

Part of the original TOT/AIS Built-Transfer-Operate agreement, that recently ended, included transferring any remaining customer accounts to TOT. Even though AIS supposedly has working on or have new agreements in place to continue operations ...who knows.

Has anybody who's having issues tried logging into their AIS account (via eService web or mobile app) and see what it says?

It fixed itself by evening.. I'm assuming it has something to do with not being a 3G sim, as mine (3G) was fine all day! SIM card is registered, however my husband still keeps getting messages saying his isn't! Bizarre

So if you want to continue to use AIS, you must have a 3G phone ?

If you want data.

Thanks, is a sms data ?

The 'issue' with 2G is it's prehistoric slow signalling rate.

3G protocols offers the same services of 2G, only faster and more efficiently, but require the equipment be able to handle much faster signalling rates and newer communications protocols. 2G and 3G signalling rates don't co-exist well on the same spectrum, so the companies are shrinking and eventually killing the ability to use the slower 2G 'service'.

SMS (Short Message System), sometimes referred to as 'text data', is a separate service from 'Data Internet' (Mobile Broadband).

Do these answers just pop out of your brain, or do you look it up? I'm always surprised about the quality of your posts. thumbsup.gif
