Minister Orders Governors to End Illegal Construction

Minister of Urban Planning and Construction Im Chhun Lim ordered all governors to check construction sites in their provinces to ensure that none are encroaching on public land, and to take action against those that do.

Some construction sites, owned by individuals and companies, have previously infringed on public land, such as roads and parks. This has damaged the attractiveness of provincial capitals, made them less orderly and threatened the safety of the public, a November 10 letter signed by the minister said.

The letter instructs governors to “take immediate action” against all citizens and businesspeople to end illegal construction. “Do not allow illegal construction on state land anymore,” it says.
