Thai exports 'could be hit'

BANGKOK: Nopporn Thepsithar, chairman of the Thai National Shippers Council, said the terror attacks in France would slow the global recovery, as they would hit popular sentiment.

Moreover, Thai shipments could be hit, as conflict between many countries would cause weaker global trade. Primarily, he said the attacks would create a short-term impact and affect global growth in the first quarter next year.

Nopporn expected many countries would raise security, and that could hit tourism and the trade sector.

"Nopporn expected many countries would raise security, and that could hit tourism and the trade sector."

As the world, including the Thai ambassador to France, shows its compassion for the tragedy in Paris and offers its condolences and any aid needed, Thai trade officials immediately divert attention to themselves and their needs: "What about me. What about me? Buddha would be so proud.

At least LoS has another convenient excuse to trot out if all the promises, predictions and positive noises about the economy, tourism etc go wrong.

Couldn't be the fault of anyone or anything here, could it ? Good idea to set the stall out early.

But do you really think anyone is listening to such odious comments, when clearly there are far more important issues to be dealt with.

The world's politicians are just as bad. At one time it would have been a personal letter via the diplomatic bag. Now it is a race to see who's minor aide can get the Prime Minister/President's sympathetic tweet into the media first. Basically a pro forma with variations covering terrorist incidents and natural disasters. And they always end "My thoughts and prayers are with the injured, and the bereaved families at this time." Yeah right, I believe you.

Why not?

... Every multinational company, every bank will do the same.

There'll be a lot of unplanned, urgent meetings on Monday, if not during this weekend, to do the same analysis.

This guy is an idiot, the last thing people want to hear is about the economical impact. There are more important issues at hand, to which clearly the Thais are yet again out of touch with reality.

No. You guys making the negative comments are all idiots. His job is chair of the shippers council. That is his responsibility, to provide information forecasts and insight to the members and counterparties he represents (i.e. People involved with international trade).

He stated the latest terrorism attacks could cause effects on international trade. What is insensitive about that comment?

If it offends you then log off, and go hang out with the sexpats and hookers that you feel more comfortable around.
