Internet Forums - Is ThaiVisa your favourite forum?

Was wondering if there were any other forums for anything about Thailand, South East Asia, the world.

For Thailand news, in English, I only heard of the Internet forum by a popular newspaper, based in the Thai Capital, but hardly ever hang out on their forum (although am a member). When I have, there is nowhere as near the amount of members you see on ThaiVisa forums. Also, their forum is separate to the news story comments.

The other source I rely on for Thai News in English is the paper named after...okay won't say it...think brown on the outside, white on the inside.

Go to any bar within Thailand you will find many forum members from all walks of life who think they know different than tvf, advice being stick to the internet based forum that has amazing members.

Yes, I would say it is.

Actually Thai Visa is the only forum I use anywhere.

A lot of people slag it off but if you keep out of General forum, and only read the news, rather than reading the comments in the news then your experience will be good in my opinion and you will avoid the Thai bashers.

Whenever I ask a question on Thai Visa i nearly always get useful info in return, I guess this is why I keep on coming back.

Plus it passes away hours in the office when I am bored and my boss has no idea so it looks like i am working clap2.gif

It is the only forum I use. I find the news to be very iffy as it comes from a very unreliable source. So I have stayed away from it for the most part. I do occasionally go to and post on the General forum as there is certain things I am interested in hearing about from all of Thailand not just a selected area.

I have one running now abut the bar and closing hours in all of Thailand as compared to Chiang Mai. Some informative answers and some things like immigration not really mentioned which tells me it is OK in the rest of Thailand.

Have to agree with you there is a good share of Thai bashers but then again they probably have no other out let for their frustration. The people around them are tired of hearing it and the people in the bars never listen to any one who thinks different than them any how. So it is off to Thai Visa. You are quite correct you can ask a question and get an answer back that is usfull. Also you may get a lot of nonsense. But the bottom line is you did get your information.

I use other forums, but for news...its pretty much the only one. Apart from the one other forum mentioned in the OP.

Yes, there are thai bashers. But reckon a little bit of thai teasing is okay. Most miss home less thay way. smile.png

I think the comments are sometimes good, sometimes nonsense. But worth skimming over for most news articles. There are some news stories that generate a lot of comments, and I think they are very useful. I mean the ability to leave comments. Yes, you get some thai bashing, but there are useful comments also.

If I find a news story very interesting, generally, read most of the comments. Except those not worth reading. (ignore anything homophobic, sexist, racist etc..unless it's in the pub forum and meant as a joke).

There are other forums too...this is the largest, others are different and offer things ThaiVisa doesn't.

Such as.........?

Oh, I know one that lets a member ridicule folk who actually live in LOS, if thats what you mean...whistling.gif

You need to look around more Trans. Monopolies and myopia are very rarely 100% positive wink.png

I agree with smokie36 and have used (and still do) half a dozen other sites but agree that TV is my daily go to.

Isn't quality better than quantity???

The other forum ................

Better housing construction thread

Members encouraged to harass other members

Use of profanities - OK

Moderation - minimal intervention

Threads rarely closed

Thai Visa Forum

Many more members=more threads=more posts

Quite strict control & intervention by moderators

Use of profanities forbidden

Far more music threads

Far more visa information

Better - depends upon one's interests

TV has both but some other sites are perhaps more specialised

As in real life there are different places for different people. One bar/pub/club will appeal to some and wont appeal to others.

Some are "rougher and more crude", some the layout and content is crap, some have a real bad element in control, but for general overall appeal Thaivisa ticks the boxes for me.

Just like Thailand, it has its problems but for most its where they prefer to be.

But a visit to other places is also necessary to then appreciate why people keep retuning here, even though they may complain and moan elsewhere, they just keep coming back, so that says it all really.

Its certainly not lacking in quantity, there's room for improvement with the quality (there always is).

Visa info is their speciality, at least it used to be, because that's how they started out in Sep 2002. I've personally found one or two occasions (not always) where there was inaccurate info by the thaivisa advisor. In comparison there has been many times where the info was correct. But maybe becoming this Behemoth has meant it had to neglect what it does best (visa info).

There is also very little info about the company that is public knowledge. e.g. Where is there head office?, how many employees do they employ (official and unofficial), what are their revenue streams?, what was their pre-tax profit, net profit, what is their year-over-year turnover.

I find that between tripadvisor and google I get most the info I need. Forums are a bit of fun.

Most of us do, well I try too, until I am involved..Shame other folk have to deal in crap cos their life is crap...And I ain't talking about their, "purported" bank balance..

Learn to laugh at it. There's a thread about me in Smokie's news section. It's wonderful! The three main contributors include a former boiler room criminal (I remember him purely because he's the most incompetent fool I've ever come across), a former British policeman who exemplifies the Dunning-Kruger effect (in other words, he's too thick to realize just how thick he is), and a morbidly obese stalker who, without a hint of self-deprecating irony, describes people as social spastics.

You couldn't make this up if you tried!

I think life changes, people change and forums change.

Here is still good for Visa stuff which is the core of how it started out. On the other hand I know my way around the Visa system well now so it's of less interest. Big thank you to some of the guys on there that have continued to be very helpful on there though. Lopburi. Maestro Ubonjoe spring to mind

Many of the other boards on here I've lost interest in over the years - for one reason or another - perhaps with the exception of the business forum, although that's been on the wane a little. The forum has been very successful, so kudos to George for that. Sometimes wonder if it has become too successful though, and become a victim of its own success and too big. Will be interesting to see where the new owners take things and any new perspectives.

As mentioned above, nice to have alternative forums just in case, and also different things, different focuses, smaller places which can sometimes be more personal like here used to be etc.

Here used to be my favourite and probably the only one a few years back. But times and people change so makes sense for Fletchsmile to be active on other forums (edit: and sometimes not active anywhere at all when real life kicks in laugh.png )

Cheers

I think it would be better if people posted only on topics that they had some interest in.

For example, when it is announced on here that on a particular day, the sale of alcohol is banned, for whatever reason it may be, religious, elections etc., the topics are inundated with posts from self righteous reformed alcoholics, who have nothing better to do than to preach about the 'evils' of alcohol.

I like a drink, and nobody is going to 'convert' me, but in all honesty, why do they bother ?

you mean real issues not issies, right?

I don't get it. Issues as in issues. For health issues I see my doctor. For retirement/ financial issues I see my banker etc..

Other "issues" are just drivel that waste time.

Because they're interested I guess. Just not in the way you want them to be.

It'd be pretty boring if all we did was agree with each other, after all.
