Volkswagen Repair&Service

I would like to find a knowledgeable small repair and service place for a 2002 VW Passat TDI. Live out on Ramkhamhaeng 150 and am disappointed about the big dealership's service on Viphavadee. Had tried two former VW workers doing their own thing, yet at facilities too simple to beleive - no minimum infrastructure, not even a pit. After one year each of them started to do sloppy jobs or fixing back parts the Thai way (instead of proper screws) or straight out cheating.

Advice from VW owners would be wonderful. Thanks.

I bought a Golf from the Ram Intra VW dealership in 2011 and have always had decent service. As you are no doubt aware VW in Thailand these days don't sell much more than the Van mini bus thing, So expected golf service and spares to be an issue but good service remains but slow and expensive because of import duties etc. I have a great contact there who will sort you out, PM me for his number

Cheers

VW know how to make a car, hence the reason the golf has won car of the year by numerous serious media over the years, but where they are least popular service suffers, it's there but not that good. It's a pity VW Thailand dropped certain models, trying to convince the thai middle class that a VW is as good as a Benz proved difficult but for those in the know was a good deal; Golg GTI 2.6 million, compared with a C200

VW certainly know how to make cars (and a profit) but so do Mercedes. VW have not convinced many buyers anywhere they are equal to Benz. Mercedes has prestige, VW don't, that's why VW have the Audi brand. I am not saying the prestige is worth the money but plenty of buyers think it is.

The market for sporty 2.6M hatchbacks is limited in LOS so the A250 / CLA250 / GLA250 are more of a problem for the GTI than the C200. There are not many "in the know".

VW (& Audi) just don't market and support cars well in Thailand. The dealer network is small to none, especially outside BKK. Their model range is lousy and some previous pricing bordering on ridiculous, (Passat & Tiguan 3M, Amorak 2M etc). It would be nice to see VW improve in LOS but with the current problems elsewhere, it's unlikely.

Yep - they officially shelved (note: not scrapped) their big Thai expansion plans under the new CEO - if only it had progressed along a few months quicker, they would have passed the point of no return already. Bad timing for us.

If you really want to compare VW vs Mercedes a fair comparison would be the Golf R mk7 R vs the AMG 45

In Thailand the Golf R is about 3.8 mill vs the AMG 6 million, http://www.topgear.com/car-news/review/mercedes-a45-amg-versus-vw-golf-r

Many other reviews puts the R better also

But Thais love that badge

You are comparing models that sell less than 20 units/year in Thailand - so using them as some sort of example of overall brand sentiment probably isn't that accurate tongue.png

A better example would be choosing models that sell in volume... e.g. how does the Passat compare to a C-Class? Ignoring fuel efficiency claims, of course cheesy.gif

We can't compare with a Passat because they don't sell them here anymore

There is no point comparing performance. Lots of manufactures offer cars with higher performance than some Mercedes. The Prestige brands like Mercedes, BMW and Audi etc sell less for more. The buyer pays a premium for prestige.

The premium is a bit more in LOS than some markets but Europeans, Americans and Australians love the badge too.

Right, but if you go back a few years when they did still sell them here, the Passat was more comparable to a Laser Tierra than it was a C-Class - to most people's eye's anyway. Thai's don't forget that kind of thing.

If they did then a Passat would be a way cheaper option for a better car than the C Class

The last Passat offerred in LOS was priced at 3M baht, well above the C200.

Probably why it is no longer on the market here.

That would have been the top of the range CC Passat 2.0 Turbo, compared with the C180 140 hp version

VW have been overpriced in LOS but no one wanted the badge so they didn't sell.

Mercedes and BMW are overpriced because of Taxes and the fact they can get buyers to pay a premium because of there image.

Audi try but mostly fail to do the same in LOS.

The C200 in Thailand has been 156 - 184 hp depending on year.

The C300 was similar price and power to the CC.

The current Passat is a good car, bit bland to look at but quiet, refined, nice interior about the size of an E Class or 5 series. They drive really well but do not command the same price as the Mercedes or BMW, that is what the A6 is for. None of them are a good value option when new in LOS.

No way to compete with a cclass for any proper mind...

Vw still a cheapish made car for teenagers, and when you look inside you know its true ♡♥♡
