BANGKOK:-- People living within 8-kilometre radius of Suvarnabhumi international airport were told not to fly balloons, hot-air lanterns or to set fireworks on Loy Krathong day or face legal actions.

The warning was issued Friday after a meeting of the 1st region provincial police, the 2nd artillery regiment of the Royal Guards, Aerothai and Samut Prakan provincial administration to discuss measures to prevent risks posed by fireworks, balloons, hot-air lanterns and laser beams on Loy Krathong day on Wednesday November 25.

Pamphlets will be distributed to people living within 8-km radius of Suvarnabhumi international airport informing them about the dangers posed to airborne aircraft from the flying objects and laser beams and about laws about aviation safety.

Mr Siroj Duangrat, director of Suvarnabhumi airport, said however that if any people really want to fly balloons or lanterns or to set fireworks must ask for permission seven days in advance with the Civil Aviation Department.

The power of lau cau will trump any orders given to prevent stupid/irresponsible behaviors. And the above photo will probably be misinterpreted to be a new dance craze. I can see a few hundred intoxicated people lining up, crossing their arms, and starting to gyrate immediately after sending up their hot air lanterns .

Who will be measuring the exclusion zone, the organisers of the recent and now infamous half-marathon ?

Actually I think it will be the same people who measure places that are "close" to schools etc. for the acohol ban.

The article states that this warning was issued on Friday, which is 6 days before Loy Kratong.

It should be 30 kilometers, and apply to all airports and Air force bases.

As mentioned--a strong wind towards airport 8 kilometers away and YOU HAVE A PROBLEM------stupid.

Near everyone at top level past and present has a bleeding tile loose, How they are taught to think --home and school---unbelievable.
