BANGKOK: IN A speech yesterday, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha stressed the integration of Thai officials posted overseas so they can work for the benefit of the country.

The PM was speaking to "Team Thailand" - government officials posted in Malaysia - at the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. He is in the Malaysian capital to attend the Asean Summit, which officially opens today.

Deputy government spokesman Maj-General Werachon Sukhon-dhapatipak quoted Prayut as saying, "I wish Team Thailand members work together and have knowledge in all fields, be it economy, security or politics, so they can work together efficiently for Thailand's benefit."

Thai Ambassador to Malaysia Damrong Kraikruan told Prayut that his mission placed importance on boosting mutual ties, as well as supporting the exchange visits of high-level officials in order to increase cooperation on investment.

Malaysia has been invited to invest in Thailand, particularly in the Special Economic Zone along the border, Damrong said. He said Thailand was ready to learn from Malaysia's experience in relation to the development of rubber, palm and Halal food products.

Although the Malaysian ringgit is faltering, Malaysian arrivals to Thailand have not reduced.

Damrong said the Kingdom was in a good position to become a leader in fostering cooperation in the international community, as well as within Asean, so it should boost its capabilities and be ready to cooperate on all levels.

Prayut, meanwhile, came up with guidelines on Thailand and Malaysia working closer together and getting more familiar by boosting visits of officials and businessmen from both sides to seek more opportunities and possibilities for mutual investment.

He asked the embassy to take good care for Thai students in Malaysia, as well as help find them jobs after graduation.

In regard to unrest in the |deep South, Prayut said negotiations with parties concerned went hand in hand with providing information to people and youths in the area. Talking to all sides was a sustainable way of solving problems, he said.

He vowed that his government would follow the road map it has set, so national elections will most certainly take place in the future.

Thai people working as a team. I'd like to see that! :)

"Prayut Chan-o-cha stressed the integration of Thai officials posted overseas so they can work for the benefit of the country."

Does this imply that Thai officials posted overseas were NOT working for the benefit of the country? Maybe they don't understand well enough of Thai democracy and confused of whom they work for, certainly not the Thai electorate.

Watched many of the keynote speeches given by leaders in English. Covered on channels like Channel News Asia etc Nobody covered the Thai PM's keynote speech. Was it in English?

Is there any relevance to this article showing Prayuth chatting with Shinzo Abe?
