Im not doing enough exercise and thus thinking of buying an exercise bike for using at home.

Can you recommend a good brand? Should I get one that is digital i.e. plugs into power or non electric one... it means that one has to turn a dial to make it harder or easier.

thanks

Just my point of view, might be different for you.

If you have already a bicycle you can buy just a trainer like www.tacx.com, saves space (most probably not money).

I have a extreme old one and love it, electric. Only problem on the bicycle at home it is super extreme boring...listen to music read a book, watch movies....all helps a bit but not too much.

I have no problems going 3 hours intensive outside, but 35 min inside needs 120 % of all my willpower....so if you have a chance to make something, anything (bicycle, running, diving or the most hard of all extreme sports following the wife when shopping clothes (feels like walking hundreds of km)....

If you buy an indoor bike: these non electric are crap...these electric are expensive......So if you buy the cheap crap you may not do the exercise because the equipment is bad.....but lost little money. If you buy the expensive one you may still not do it, because in fact you are too lazy but you lost lots of money....

Please write some updates......Always good to hear from other people who try to keep more fit....today I went jogging for the first time in something like 15 years tongue.png

Edit maybe the cycling forum can help better?

If you want something good for indoors buy a spinning bike, they have a heavy flywheel in the front and they are heavy duty.

No electric stuff that can break, almost impossible to wear them out.I had the same one for years in my gym and never a problem.

The problem with most home equipment is it ends up under the bed or in the basement after a few months because people get bored, fix that problem and you are fine.

If you have a fix against boring, let me know wai.gif

I try a regular 35 min and from time to time 95 min on the bike. Road bike on the trainer so it isn't comfortable, just to keep in shape till I am out of Bangkok and have time to ride it on the street and I die from boring.

Sometimes I try not looking on the watch for 5 min....when I look again it is like 20 sec later.....Doing it with pure willpower and there is not enough of it....

As far as i know there are some very nice biking paths in Bangkok, you could do that in the weekend if you have time.

The roads are dangerous ,i would not do that after dark.

If you get bored in the house, call some one who needs a long conversation or find some one to exercise with you at the same time and talk while you are keeping fit.

Anything with a fan for resistance will drive you and the neighbours insane with the noise. Anything with friction to provide the resistance will have a "lumpy" feel, with a dead spot top dead center and (what's more) you're producing a lot of heat. That said, the preferred option - magnetic resitance - has to convert the energy into something. But a normal bike and an A-frame turbo trainer is almost certainly better and more practical than an actual exercise bike, although sweat will absolutely rot the handlebars and stem, and bubble all the paint, particularly on the top tube. You needs a towel, and then you need to wipe the metal clean with fresh water.

[i managed 3 minutes at 46kph on the Wattbike last night - it's coming on laugh.png

Soon I'll only be 30 seconds slower over 3,000m than that girl at the 2012 paralympics].
