Where to post this topic? Bad Internet? Censorship?

Uhm Where shall I start?

Is it Thai Visa?

Is it the Single Gateway?

Is it bad internet connection?

I seem to be having all sorts of problems with the Internet.

I find several websites just refuse to open. Others open immediately.

Tried to reply to some topics here and cannot. The Internet just hangs.

Here is an example: I tried to reply to this maybe 10 times but nothing happened.

Replying to I just can't stand the noise in this country

Start new topic... no problem.

Search regarding problems in Europe at the moment and get the dreaded green Government blocking sign.

The internet here is becoming useless.

This isn't a troll but seriously meant.

Edit: Now I can reply to the mentioned topic. Earlier I tried 6 or 7 times

I think it's just you.... I am getting blazing fast download speeds. Takes me about 5-10 minutes to download a 1gb file and every website opens just fine. Pings are a little high to NA... around 200ms to NA, making trigger happy multiplayer games kind of gay, but otherwise everything else works fine.

It's not just you at all. If I try to open speedtest.net I get a 'no data received' page. Other pages — uk news sites etc — the same nonsence.

If I go through a vpn pages like 'speedtest.net' open just fine.

The usual s..te

Where are you?

What provider? Wifi / DSL / Fibre?

Example links for blocked sites please.

Without its just a rant.

I do not notice anything exceptional.

Thaivisa works fine,

On some days it takes some ten/twenty seconds to open/edit.

Not currently.

yes. Today I notice a problem using internet.

First try many links do not load. but slowly it loads eventually after the browser initially gave the error message.

Seems possible that the system does load the page first on the ISP side, checks the content for censorship, and only if its approved you get it, which is causing the original error message and delay

I am using CAT fiber. Let me check more.....

OP, do a continous ping to your providers gateway, you will find the gateway IP in your router settings.

http://www.computerhope.com/pinghlp.htm

Then check the percentage of package losses.

I experience the same for several weeks also and experience package losses of up to 33%, that mean 33% of the time there is no connection available.

I have involved OCPB on Thursday, who called my provider, and since I have experienced the issue only for about 1 hour on Saturday. I called them up and reminded them about OCPB, and some 15 minutes later the issue disappeared, however they claim to have no hand in it.

It is clear that someone is fiddling with the internet connections, since the issue is ONLY during office hours.. Not sure if this is part of creating the worldwide IT hub Thailand claims to be.

It happens now and an hour ago.

20:30 - 21:30 pm are office hours? (Thai time)

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh Lets see how worse it can get.

PS. I had similar internet f***ed thing an hour earlier in an internet cafe with I do not know which ISP, but not sure it was same as my at home......

Then you are more unlucky than me, because I can do a continuous ping test from around 5.30 pm till 9 am the next morning, and there will be 0 packages lost.

lots of people have been having connection problems this month, myself included

  • 2 weeks later...

i have the same problems

I'm with True and some connections are terribly slow, others impossible to open, and some barely acceptable , but overall this kind of performance would be intolerable in most western countries.

Again: no way to evaluate without some examples/sites.

They won't notice SMEs upping sticks and moving elsewhere until it's too late.

Since Saturday internet has been so slow that it occasionally stops altogether. (Buriram). Facebook is almost unusable and international sites (BBC) not working at all.

I have had Firefox crashing regularly for the last two days. Internet here is really third world, no question.

Add me to that list-in the mornings speed is ok (for thailand) and Thai Visa opens albeit rather slowly but after 6pm pages will not load yet I can access online newspapers back in the UK,this has been happening for the past 6 weeks or so.I,m renting in Pattaya with True internet provided by the owners.

I have the cheap 3BB package, 630bht..Just done a test, Ping 42ms, download 11.48mbps and upload 1.07.

Your thoughts....?

My chum, about one kilometer away, has TOT that is very slow to me when l tinker with his PC..

You should do a continuous ping test to the gateway, or your DNS server, and see how many packages you lose.

I have the same package as you and getting about the same speeds, but over the last 3 months been having websites not opening on first attempt and receiving the reset message. I do manage to eventually open the websites on several clicks. Not a major problem only irritating.

I am convinced someone somewhere along the line is tampering with the works.

OP ... it is likely your Internet Service Provider. I have True and sometimes -- far too often Thaivisa is at a crawl ... It has been explained to me that the thaivisa file servers are in California, USA... (I don't know if that is true) But never the less .. .I am also told that the International switching services from Thailand out of the Bkk Area to other nations along International trunks is the problem. For me - any service based in America is SLOW... and too often unusable ....

I do not want to try to afford Fiber Optic from a company like CAT to help this problem so I just grin and bear it...

You should also have your router checked by the service provider and even the cabling coming into your dwelling... Find a speed test website and do constant testing and record it to show the Internet Service provider technicians.

Again: no way to evaluate without some examples/sites.

Well... almost any site. I couldn't open Thai Visa at all.

http://www.speedtest.net/

http://www.bbc.com/news/world

Facebook

YouTube

are just some examples of sites that wouldn't open. I managed to open speedtest on my mobile (through wi-fi) and got a speed of 0.5 mbs.

I complained to True many times and they reset my connection, supposedly sent a technician round to check (never saw him). Today my Internet is much faster but, they are periods of 20 to 30 seconds where nothing happens.

Hopefully all is well now.

Could be a simple browser issue. Especially if its an old browser.

Empty cache etc usually works. What browser do you use?
