I haven't had very good luck searching for a good Endodontist up here in Sakon Nakhon. I went to the local dentist here in Sakon Nakhon with my Thai wife.I was experiencing pain over 3 days. I decided it wasn't going away so, I told the English speaking Thai dentist I had throbbing pain in the bottom back tooth. He prodded, poked and examined the area then paused and said he didn't see anything wrong and was ready to send me off. OMG! I said why don't you take a xray ! he said OK.After examining it he said I would need a root canal and crown.I asked how much?(12,000bht). How much experience he had with root canals (just a couple).I asked for a recommendation for specialist(Endodontist). So off I went to a office/shop down the street a bit, across from the Bangkok Bank in the city.We brought my xray over to the English speaking Thai dentist there she looked at it and said she would be able to do a root canal and that it would need 4 visits and that she would be able to perform the first step that day and remove the pulp that was infected and that would stop the pain. She gave me 4 needles to numb up the area and said to wait. After 15 minutes she asked if my tongue was numb I said no then she said well if I feel pain to raise my left hand. Unfortunately I am no stranger to a dental chair over the years I have had 4 of these but all in the states.I kind of know what to expect for pain if any but

this is Thailand and Isan. There was unspeakable pain which required more numbing,After 15 minutes of this she finished it off with a cotton plug and said rinse your mouth (metal community cup) and gave me IB's and said to come back in a couple of days I sucked down those 600 mg IB's right away and later washed it down with 5 big Changs. So I told the other half the next visit she must help me explain that was a very bad experience and that I need more numbing. The second visit was worst then the first with no numbing at all. At this point I convinced myself that this is what Thai dentistry is and bed side manners aren't part of the dentist skills. On several occasions she wanted my head down to get a better look in my mouth instead of saying move your head down she put the heal of her hand in my mouth and jammed it forcefully down several times ( ).When it was over I told her she gave me much pain and that back in the states this wouldn't happen and asked why she didn't numb me she said the roots where very long and that she felt numbing wasn't helpful. Please if someone knows any thing about root canal dentists up here .I need to go see someone else .I don't care if its half way through the procedure.

First Thai dentists are very stingy about numbing your teeth, you have to be very strong and force them to do it. Second in Isaan I find the best dentists are at the hospitals.

I told the Mrs about the hospital. This same lady dentist works over at the hospital as well. The Mrs also said why do you suppose most people have their teeth pulled.I guess its less pain full for a extraction and the cost compared to the RC is much less. More comments are welcome, really.

How far are you from Kuchinarai, in Kalasin, they have a dentist in their hospital, who is now working on her second root canal and crown, for me. I have confidence in her. The only problem is the appointments are usually 3 to 4 weeks apart, so it can take time to get done, but the total cost with the crown, will be about ฿6,000.
