I read on this forum somewhere that some people have had a bit trouble coming back in thru Pedang Bazar, I came back 2 days after the coup though and had no problems at all.

How can you have a problem if you have genuine visa granted from your exiting countries Thai Embassy,can't see any problem at all going by train.

I know this is not a direct answer to your questions, but with the cheap price of tickets with Thai Air Asian and one hour of travel time, why not just fly?

My mate is going to Penang by train tonight. No changes.
