BANGKOK: -- Police yesterday apprehended a South Korean national over drug-possession charges, while also trying to find evidence linking him to the death of a so-called South Korean gang member, whose body was discovered inside a car.

The South Korean Consulate contacted Huai Yai Police in Chon Buri's Bang Lamug district at 4pm on Sunday to inspect the body of Im Dong Jun, 24. This was after Yoon Myung Kun, 31, had alerted the consulate that Im's body had been found in a Honda CRV car parked at a resort near Wat Huai Yai.

Yoon initially identified the attackers as gang leader Kim Sung Pyo, 30, and gang member Kim Hyong Jin, 31, and said both had reportedly fled to Vietnam.

Huai Yai superintendent Pol Colonel Anant Phurahong yesterday revealed that police was seeking arrest warrants for the two fugitives and had also arrested Yoon over a drug-possession charge. He said the 0.9 gram of crystal meth or "ice" was found at the scene and Yoon's urine tested positive for substance abuse - although Yoon has maintained his innocence saying the drug wasn't his.

Police are also investigating if Yoon was involved in the fatal assault, Anant said, adding that Yoon had entered Thailand legally but his passport was suspiciously missing.

Meanwhile, Huai Yai investigator Pol Captain Piya Boon-on summoned a South Korean national (whose name was withheld) to provide information, as this person had lent his car to the gangsters to travel from Bangkok to Pattaya City.

BANGKOK: -- Police yesterday announced the arrest of a South Korean man for his alleged role in the November 19 murder of compatriot and syndicate gang member Lim Dong Joon, whose body was found in a car at a resort in Chon Buri's Huai Yai district.

The suspect identified as Yun Myeong Kyun, 31, initially alerted the South Korean Consulate about the body and was later identified as the gang leader, although he claimed to have just dumped the body at the resort and that he had nothing to do with the murder.

Not finding his testimony convincing, police had him undergo a urine test, which came out positive for substance abuse. The suspect also implicated other two on-the-run compatriots Kim Sung Pyo, 30, and Kim Hyong Jin, 31, as the culprits.
