NON Immigrant O Extension question

Featured Replies

I am off to immigration this week to extend my Non Immigrant O visa based on guardian status of my minor child studying in Thailand. For the certified letter from the bank can it be dated 1 day early or it has to be the for the exact date you are at immigration? I have got mixed advise on this! What I mean is that supposing I am going to immigration on Friday can the letter from the bank be obtained on Thursday as well as the update on my bank book or it has to be for Friday? I know there is a bank at immigration in BKK where all this can be done, however I just feel more content and organised to have all the docs already with me when I arrive there.

Will appreciate the advise I get here.

Thanks

You are applying for an extension of stay based upon being the parent of a child attending school. There is no guardian visa or extension.

It seems you are going to Chaeng Wattana immigration. The will accept the letter from the day before but will want your bank book updated on the same day you apply.

Probably easier to get the letter and bank book updated on the same day you go. The banks there open at 8:30. But it might be a good idea to check if your bank has a branch their if it is not one of the major ones.

Yea that is correct its the 1 year extension of non immigrant o post the 90 days entered on into Thailand. My bank is Bangkok bank so I know they have a branch there. I guess I will get the letter done earlier and update bank book there while waiting for my token number to be called. Thanks for your prompt response and accurate advise as always.

One other question. Once the extension is granted can the money in the account be used until three months before the next extension due after 1 year?

You can do what ever you want with the money after you have the extension up to 90 days before you apply for a new one.

If this is the same as the marriage extension, there is a waiting period between the application date and the granting of the extension, usually one month (you will get an "under consideration" stamp indicating the date).

To me it's not clear when you may access the funds - there have been reports by posters here that they ran into problems taking money out of their account during the "under consideration" period. I usually wait until after this but I have also read reports where people used the money straight away without problem.

Perhaps ubonjoe can clarify this?

It is not the same. No under consideration stamp for one based upon being the parent of a child attending school.

For an extension based upon marriage or for being the parent of a Thai it is best to leave the money in the bank. There have been reports of immigration contacting the bank to find out if the money is still there. They will allow a small amount to be taken out but not emptying the account.

whistling.gif I also have a Bangkok Bank account.

I can verify you can get a letter of account balance in CW at the Bangkok Bank branch there.

Cost is 100 Baht for a form letter done by computer.

Takes between 5 and 15 minutes depending on how many are waiting in queue for teller services.

Just be sure you have your passbook and passport for I.D. purposes.

Done it myself before.

Our visa extension was granted with no issues.

Can anyone please explain to me how the 90 days reporting works? What documents are required to be carried?

Thanks

Did they put a slip in your passport telling you when your first report is due when you did the extension? Your first report is due 90 days from the date you applied.

You can do the report up to 15 days early or 7 days after the report date including that date.

Normally all that shroud be needed to do the report in person all you need is a completed TM47 form and your passport. There are a few offices that also want copies of your passport and departure card.

You can also do your report online (see pinned topic) or by mail.

Sorry to digress from the original post , but I was amazed / shocked , that it is possible for the Thai Immigration dept to be told by your respective bank , how much money you have in your account. Do they do this with a court order ?
