Non Imm O visa question

Featured Replies

I'm living in Thailand on a retirement visa, and I know this means no work ( paid, unpaid or voluntary). My question is does this preclude me from participating in either amateur or professional sporting events in any capacity?

what about if professional event and no pay? especially if a Thai golfer asks me to caddy for him?

Not sure, but the evidence to prove you DON'T get paid is with you and NOT with Immigration. So ask yourself in case of trouble can you prove that you don't get paid ?

PS: And even volunteering needs a Workpermit in Thailand

Edit2 : And can you prove that you are not taking away a Job a Thai can do ?

Easy to prove not getting paid as Asian Tour Q School has no prize money, so no payment for the caddy. If a Thai could do the job, a Thai pro golfer would not be asking me to caddy for him, he'd be asking a Thai with similar experience. The golfer asked me to caddy for him because he knows I was a professional tour caddy between 1990 - 2002.

All the Thai golf courses/clubs that I know employ Thai people as caddies

By accepting a job as a caddy by definition you would be obviously working and also possibly depriving a Thai of a days pay + tips.

It would only need a telephone call made by a disgruntled Thai caddy for you to find yourself in a difficult situation.

.

If you were not carrying the clubs and only giving advise then it might not be a problem.

Unfortunately under The Rules of Golf only the caddy can give a player advice, so I know what my decison will have to be.
