SONGKHLA, 25 November 2015 (NNT) – A warning of heavy rains and strong waves has been issued for southern provinces along the Gulf of Thailand, effective from November 26th to 30th.

An announcement has been released by the Southern Meteorological Center (East Coast) in Songkhla, indicating that a high-pressure trough currently dominating the upper part of Vietnam will likely spread to the northeastern region of Thailand tonight. As a result, the northeast monsoon prevailing over the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region will pick up more strength.

Under the circumstance, residents on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand from Chumphon province downward are encouraged to brace themselves for increased rainfall, gusty winds and strong waves of 2-3 meters as well as possibilities of subsequent disasters. The stormy condition is expected to last from November 26th to 30th.

The Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Songkhla has affirmed that officials are monitoring the amount of rainfall in the region 24 hours a day. Emergency response units are now ready for duty while flood relief equipment has been distributed to local administrative agencies.
