Lost passport and work permit while traveling

Featured Replies

Hello, couldn't find info about in the forum. Maybe someone could point in the right direction. My friend was robbed while traveling outside Thailand, she lost passport with visa and work permit. What does she need to do in order recover her visa? Thanx

A visa is lost and cannot be replaced.

If your friend had an extension of stay there is a possibility of immigration restoring that.

She needs to obtain a new passport or emergency travel document from her Embassy. She will most likely need a Police report detaling the loss.

Thank you expatbrit. Yes, sorry, she had an extension of stay, not visa. She had already reported to the police and will wait for the new passport to be issued. The question is what steps she needs to follow before or when entering Thailand in order to maintain her status.

She can obtain a tourist visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate or enter the country using a visa exempt entry.

Once in the country she should visit immigration with any evidence she has of once having an extension of stay. Details of her old passport would help.

If nothing can be done she will ,with paperwork from her employer, have to start again with a new "B" visa .

Be you tourist or expat, if you don't have photocopies of your documents you are not smart.

Renewing documents is easier if you can prove you had them to begin with.

It can be hassle to do this but weighed against the inconvenience in the worst case scenario, it's worth it.

take a pic with your phone of all doc right after clearing custom and send it to your email address or drop box or whatever...check stamp in same time that it s all OK and you understand every stamp and what it mean. if not come back to i/o and ask.

Thank you guys for the feedback. My friend does have copies of every documents, including backup copies at her lawyer's office in Bangkok. Her doubt is, if she enter Thailand again with a 30 days visa exemption, would she be able to recover her previous extension of stay at the Immigration Department, or she needs to obtain a proper visa prior to entering the Kingdom?

Always print copies of all pertinent recent information of visas and passport info. This saves one lots of trouble.
