Prince Norodom Ranariddh again took up the reins of Funcinpec at the beginning of the year, eight years after being driven out of the party. He aspires to return the “royalists” to the political scene, using the “Sihanoukist” political philosophies of his father. Although, since the last elections, Funcinpec no longer has any representatives in the National Assembly, Prince Ranariddh intends to build on the electoral “potential” of the royalist party to forge a national union of the political sides in Cambodia. According to him, such a rapprochement is the only solution to resolving the country’s problems, with the most pressing being the reduction of poverty.
