PHUKET: -- Disobedient vendors on Surin Beach have given the president of the Cherng Talay Administration Organization (OrBorTor) 'no choice' but to designate it as one of Phuket’s ‘virgin beaches’.

Though a 10 per cent zone had already been marked, beach vendors renting out umbrellas and offering other services there failed to follow the beach management rules put in place by former Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong.

“The vendors didn’t want to obey the rules, so now there will be no zones for them to work in at all,” Mr Ma-ann Samran, Cherng Talay OrBorTor president, confirmed to the Phuket Gazette today. “I have already informed Vice Governor Chokdee Amornwat about my decision and have submitted an official letter to Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada.”

Don't think for a minute think it was Ma-ann's decision. He's the worst. This is the guy that completely sold off Surin Beach and that started all this. I can't write here what this man has done, but he was a very wealthy man. He talks out of both sides of his mouth. The fact that he is still the OrBorTor, still making decisions there, speaks volumes.

Phuket is such a shambles..........the administration of the entire island should be cleaned out and fresh blood bought in........crooks, thieves and liars the lot of them!

Sounds like Pattaya. Lots of nice, honest, hard working people here. Lots of dishonest, mean, powerful and corrupt creatures as well.

sounds like the whole planet

Just go to a nice city that seems to have no problem in western land and get hired as a frontliner for the city's calls.

8hrs shifts of pure anger from tons of citizen.

and when people start to take legal action against him because they got Sun Burn... or maybe Skin Cancer?

Then we have ignorant people abusing the legal system.

People w/o the common sense they were born with. Plenty

of effective sunblock lotions, hats and cover ups. If you can

not survive w/o an umbrella I suggest you find a beach that

provides what you require. There are enough around.

And, I do agree with LivinginKata's post that should allow

anyone to bring their own, but suing for sunburn is just utter

nonsense. Grow up!!

I agree. My second career consisted of 12 hour shifts, responding to to peoples homes and businesses and trying my best to preserve the peace. Glad I'm now retired and able to enjoy my life here in Thailand. Peace to all in Phuket, Pattaya and everywhere.:)

Seems simple to solve to me. If the vendors violate the rules, hand out a big fine, ban them for 6 months and bring in another. Umbrellas at the beach are a necessity for tourists. If done properly, it could work out easily.

I think it's staggering that a single beach authority can't be set up that oversees all beach activity. The revenue that could be generated would pay for the upkeep, lifeguards etc.

The revenue that is already generated pays for the fancy life style and mia nois of the local mayors.
