visa/passport dilemma!

Featured Replies

hi

i am currently on a triple entry tourist visa, i know its 60 + 30 extension x 3.

problem i have is I cant find my passport, im 99% sure its somewhere in my house but my first 60 days runs out in 10 days or so. Can i get the 30 day extension with a copy of my passport which i have or can i do it online, and will give me a bit more time to find it or decide i am going to go to uk embassy in bkk and get a new passport/fly back on a temporary passport and get it all sorted in england which will cost me so much more money and hassle.

I am pretty certain the passport is in my house, but its just been misplaced, but given i have only 10 days left before i need to make a 30 day extension i need to act asap, if i can get an extension with a copy of my passport that would really stop the panic. i have a triple entry so my visa actually is valid for 270 days but with just 10 days left until i need to make an extension im starting to worry.

any advice is hugely appreciated.

thanks in advance

Unfortunately not, you need your ORIGINAL passport.

Sorry

The actual passport will be required.

An extension of stay process involves placing a stamp inside the passport.

No chance.

You have to set your own deadline when you give up searching.

I don't want to go into detail about further proceedings.

Every other time there are threads about lost/stolen passports.

Unless your passport magically surfaces within the next day or 2, your only practical option would be to obtain an Emergency Travel Document from the British Embassy in Bangkok and fly back to the UK to get a replacement passport sorted there.

In this connection, you should also be aware that HMPO require police reports to be provided in support of applications to replace lost passports. You will therefore need to to obtain a report from the BIB in Bangkok since the passport was lost in Thailand, and get it translated into English before you fly home. Something else for you to bear in mind when setting your deadline in accordance with the immediately preceding poster's suggestion.

You could get an emergency travel document (aka emergency passport) at the UK embassy and then apply for a new passport here.

Info about the ETD is here: https://www.gov.uk/emergency-travel-document

The ETD would allow you to do a border crossing to get a 30 day visa exempt entry that could be extended for 30 days.at an immigration office.

mate ive got a crew of me and pals already on the case 555, the place is being turned over. i will let u know the outcome !!! Thanks again

Look under the scanner lid on your printer. That's where my yellow tabian baan was hiding!

If you decide on passport replacement, I would really consider doing it in Thailand (probably 2-3 weeks) and forget about ETD and flying to the UK. As soon, as the new passport arrives, do a border hop. Yes, you will have an overstay fine to pay, but the cost will be less than the alternatives.

If this is not clear to you, the lost passport means the visa in there is history. You will need to make plans to get a new visa somewhere. The initial border hop can probably just be for a visa exempt entry though.

I remember turning a hotel room upside down in Moscow in a mad panic to find my passport, I had finally accepted that it was lost and I needed embassy assistance, so packed everything into my suitcase and prepared to leave the hotel.. As I picked up my suitcase I found it underneath.

Also in similar crisis's a common place to find your passport is under the tray of a computer scanner or photocopier!

Surely this only applies if the OP lives in Bangkok, all that is required is a police report, and that can be done at their local police station, wherever that may be.

Would probably take rather longer in his case since his is not a standard renewal but the replacement of a lost/stolen passport which HMPO take rather more seriously.

Unwise for him to rely on his local plod back in the UK being willing to issue a report for a passport that was lost in Thailand, though, IMHO.

I meant his local police station in Thailand - not everyone lives in Bkk. :-)

They certainly scrutinize the documents more closely. However, they also appreciate that being without a passport is not a comfortable position for a national to be in. While not the most service-oriented bunch in the world, police report, copy of lost passport and normal documents I would expect to be sufficient. With luck, they might even expedite it.

The main problem might be talking your way into VFS atTrendy without waiting three weeks for a appointment. I think that would be possible though.

From https://www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport:-

"If you’re replacing a lost or stolen passport, you may have to attend an interview and your application may take longer."

If he was required to attend an interview, would this be held when he was due to submit his application, as a prerequisite to it then be accepted? Or would a further subsequent trip to With-It Tower be required on his part for this purpose?

In all honesty, I do not know. My guess is that if the passport office had doubts, they would get in touch to tell you to arrange an interview at the embassy. VFS are paper pushers, not consular officials. I also think that the passport photocopy would likely satisfy them without an interview unless this was for someone with stolen/lost passports in the past.

Unfortunately the OP hasn't returned to let us know that his passport is lost forever or they are reunited again coffee1.gif
