I just came in this morning at the Nong Khai (Friendship Bridge) land crossing. I have lots and lots of Thai 30 day stamps in my passport. The guy flipped through my passport a bit, but didn't examine it very thoroughly. He didn't type anything on his computer or scan my passport. It was all a manual operation. There was no way he could have determined how many times or how many days I've been in Thailand during the past 6 months based on his quick scan of my passport. So based on that, it appears that they are doing what they said and it is not retroactive but rather the clock starts on October 1.

This really should be a sticky!!!!!

It would be nice if more "visa runners" who have been crossing the border the last week could confirm that it really works like it's supposed to do, on most of the border crossings. Bad timing forces me to make another run, and getting stuck in Poipet is not my idea of a fun week.

Is there a list anywhere over Thai consulates/embassies with realistic processing times for visas? I tried the embassy in Oslo in June, and was told "sometime next week", which didn't fit with my travel schedule.

I suppose there's no consulate in Poipet, or is there? How is the embassy in Vientianne?
