Thai Embassy in Canada

Featured Replies

OK so I have been looking at the Royal Thai Embassy web site in Canada. Let's see if I understand this correctly. First I will copy and paste what I am reading;

http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/visas/types-visas-periods-stay-fees/tourist-visa

3. Validity of a visa

The validity of a visa is 3 months (single entry) or 6 months (double or triple entries)

4. Period of stay

Upon arrival, travelers with this type of visa will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 60 days.

5. Extension of stay

Those who wish to extend their visa must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Government Center B, Chaengwattana Soi 7, Laksi, Bangkok 10210, Tel 0-2141-9889 (please visit http://www.immigration.go.th). The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer.

6. Tourist visa fee

CAD 40.00 (single entry) / CAD 200.00 (multiple entries)

If I am reading this correctly I can get a multiple entry tourist visa in Canada. The Visa is good for 6 months. So I do my first 90 days (with 30 day extension gained in Bangkok). Then I exit the country (any land Border) and do the same thing again. Then shortly before the Visa expires I do another flagpole and get another 60 days extendible to 90. So If I understand this properly I will get just a few days short of 9 months on a multiple entry tourist visa. Have I got this right? Be easy on me, first post here smile.png

You can get almost 9 months of total stay from a multiple entry tourist visa. It allows unlimited 60 day entries for 6 months.

The page you quoted does not give all the info needed for getting the METV. See. http://www.thaiembassy.ca/uploads/ott09112015.pdf

Excellent, thank you very much.

So I will do this then head home for 3 summer months and then do it all over again (providing the rules are the same the next year)

Thanks again.

Wait a minute, it would be cheaper for me to get 3 90 day visa's wouldn't it?

90 day = $40

6 months = $200

Of course I would be getting the second 2 in Cambodia so I don't know what the cost would be compared to Canada.

Maybe just save the hassle and get the 6 month for the small amount of money saved anyway.

If you factor in the cost of traveling someplace to get the single entry visas plus hotel costs there would be very little if any money saved.

You could be be denied the 2nd SETV in Cambodia, so the best next trip would be to Laos (either consulate there) or Penang.

But if you plan on making visits to nearby countries, why spend your time there dealing with visas? If you don't plan/want to spend time in those places at all, even more reason to get the METV - if you can (see Ubon Joe's link above).

Also, if you do attempt to obtain a METV in Canada, please report back here with what you were required to show at the consulate, for the benefit of others who may consider this option in the future. Oftentimes, what is "stated as required" and what is "really required" are not the same.

Thanks guys, I agree I'm just going to go with the METV, if I did save any money (which would be minimal) it's just not worth the hassle. With the METV I would be free to travel around as I wanted also. i.e. Vietnam, Laos etc...

I don't have my timeframe yet as my employer has to give me my official retirement date. Need my pension flowing before I go. I do have the cash in the bank as required for the METV. I will report back as events unfold.
