Thai teen designer uses fashion to challenge prejudice
By Coconuts Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- Skirts made from bamboo chicken cages and billowy dresses crafted from mosquito nets – a Thai teen is elevating everyday items of rural life to the catwalk to challenge entrenched prejudice among the Bangkok elite.

Apichet Atilattana, a 16-year-old from Khon Kaen in Thailand's northeastern rice bowl region, launched his designs on Facebook.

But on Friday night his inventive, humorous, and somewhat bizarre concepts made their catwalk debut at a fashion show in Bangkok.

His materials – bamboo rice steamers, banana leaves and hand-held fans – are loaded with symbolism in a country divided between the wealth and power of Bangkok and a rural majority who provide the backbone of the economy.

"The military seized power from the elected government in 2014, disenfranchising millions of Isaan people who voted for the toppled administration of Yingluck Shinawatra.

It was the second coup in less than a decade supported by a Bangkok elite who refuse to accept losing at the polls.

Politics has reinforced the sense of separation between the Bangkok elite and the people of Isaan who they stereotype as ill-educated, unrefined and easily led."

Interesting twist to the story by coconuts. Not a completely accurate tirade as regards detail, but a change from their usual innuendo and nonsense.

Coconuts is obviously a year behind fashion fads as this idiotic trend of men posing in high heels has been going on for over a year. A 16 year old copies a trend and is lauded as inventive. This is just the standard "borrowing" of other people's ideas and of using it for one's personal gain, so typical of SE Asia. . Here are some examples that have been circulating for quite some time;

Those who were disenfranchised are in a PRETTY (pun intended) rough spot if a 16 year old boy trying to look like Cindy Crawford in high heels is going to help them......

Not saying they think this nonsense will help them......Honestly I have no idea who might think it would???

It's not only hopeless, it's hilarious!

Oh well, at least he isn't on Beach Road in Pattaya picking pockets, yet.

Alllll-Righty then.

Few things hurt my eyes other than sticks, but you managed to remotely hurt my eyes.

Unfortunately, this report taken from coconuts is a distortion of what this lad is actually doing, or promoting. For their own reasons Coconuts has shown him in heels as opposed to his actual designs for women that some of you, Geriatrickid and Jaywalker, would be aware of if you actually took in how the report described his designs Nowhere did it mention high heels for men.

This is nothing to do with "the standard borrowing of other people's ideas and of using it for one's personal gain, so typical of SE Asia". What garbage that is.

The Bangkok Post had a proper report on it.

Interesting that you have such a collection of weird pictures to hand, Geriatrickid.

Though I guess you just looked at the picture rather than reading the actual article.

You should try reading, had you done so you would have realised his designs and the prejudice he's said to be challenging are nothing to do with men in heels.

This kid is a brilliant designer. In fact, he's been doing this for a few years now, and it's others who are copying him. What's he's doing is known as Wearable Art. It's a copyrightable art form, as I hold copyrights in it for over 30 years. This young man's open heart and mind will go a long way in freeing up fashion and prejudicial ideas. However, some people (in this forum) will always be a**holes, no matter what.

If a**holes understand chromosome reality and gender fraud, some people in this forum will know the truth no matter what you call them.

Found some shocking and indecent pics of him on google, that would not go well if the kid plan a future career

I'll stick with my torn underwear, over sized shirts and tight shoes. coffee1.gif

Shouldn't go well for whatever website is hosting indecent pics of him considering he's underage.

That picture could have fooled me....then again that boy is not a man, ain't a woman either. How he is getting press is beyond me.

Borders on pictures a pedophile would enjoy if you ask me.

Whatever it is, it makes me want to reach for a barf bucket.
