I am planning to travel from Bangkok to Koh Samui early next month howvere I only have train tickets to get me from Bangkok station to Surathani station and did not purchase the combo boat/bus tickets due to availability. I am scheduled to reach Surathani Railway Station at 1620 hours, agents (whom i don't 100% trust) did inform me that there is transport readily available and that i should be able to get to Koh Samui the same day that is after reaching Surathani station @ 1600. Can anyone help me clarify two things is there transport from Surathani Station to koh samui and it is possible to get to Koh Samui the same day if arriving at Surathani station at 1600 hours please help........?

Once you get off the train in ST, walk out of the station and hang a left, there's a bunch of restaurants and travel agents over there who are more than willing to take you to Samui.

My only biggest problem i have been told by someone that if i arrive at 1620 at Surathani Railway station that by the time i get a transfer to the port i will miss the last ferry and there will be no way of getting to koh Samui the same day which i desperately need to do........ Can anyone clarfy this since i have never been to Koh Samui......

Last ferry leaves at 6 I think, if they leave swiftly, you should make it on, otherwise pay a cab driver a brown one if he can get you to the pier before the boat leaves, this all providing the train isn't late...........

If you desperately need to be on Samui, why don't you fly?

The last Raja ferry is 7 pm.They have been running extra services as of late to cope with all the trucks.

You can give them a call :

Bangkok office....... 2277 8709 / 2277 4488 if that #don't work delete the first 2.

Donsak office.........077 471 151 -3.

Raja Ferry and Seatrans both offer joint bus/boat tickets, try calling their offices and see if they have the bus out in front of the train station for that train.

Seatrans: 77 ( 426-000, 2 ) Surat : ( 275 060, 2 )

And I would call the Surat office instead of the bangkok office, more likely to get accurate information from the local office.

I agree with Rooo that the last ferry is leaving Donsak at 7.00 pm.

Unfortuneately the train is almost always late though, so you still might have some problems there.

BUT, since you are not travelling until early next month - there should be plenty of time to re-schedule your train trip.

Take the #167(18.20) or #85(19.30) instead and you will travel in the night and arrive in Surat Thani early in the morning, just make sure to book a sleeping coach with aircon.

After arriving to ST you will just take a bus and the ferry and be on Samui at apprx 12.00

Also make sure not to miss the Restaurant Car on the train - good food 'n' drinks, and often a party after closing time 22.00.

Have a nice trip !

You could fly from BKK to Samui for far less than the cost of chartering a speedboat from Suratthani to Samui. At a guess you would be looking at 20K mininimun for a speadboat

You won't get there the same day unless your lucky. However, I always opt for the night ferry. A little more expensive, but you arrive early next morning 'bout 5-30am...ish, & then 'bout 80baht to chaweng( if you barter the price ).
