More than 1,000 Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) supporters, including provincial and village-level leaders in Takeo, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces, left the party and joined the Beehive Social Democratic Party (BSDP).

They said they left the main opposition party because of a “lack of confidence” in the CNRP’s leadership and the party’s inability to resolve internal issues.

“I am proud that those patriots made the right decision to join with our party,” said Mam Sonando, the 73-year-old president of BSDP. Mr. Sonando said he thought people were leaving the CNRP because party leaders were ineffective.
