Thai police say arrests made abroad in connection with Bangkok bomb
REUTERS

BANGKOK: -- Thai police said on Thursday that suspects wanted in connection with a bomb that ripped through a Bangkok shrine, killing 20 people, have been arrested abroad and that Thailand was in the process of requesting their extradition.

More than 120 people were wounded in the August blast, the worst peacetime bombing in Thailand's history.

So far, arrest warrants have been issued for 17 people in connection with the attack. Police have said many are thought to have fled abroad.

"We have caught more people with arrest warrants out for them in connection to this case, including Thais and foreigners, but they are currently abroad and we are in the process of working with the attorney general and foreign affairs ministry to bring them to Thailand," Police Lieutenant General Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul, deputy national police chief, told reporters.

Thai woman, Turkish husband arrested in connection to Erawan Shrine bombing
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A Thai Muslim woman and her Turkish husband have been arrested in connection to the Erawan Shrine bombing attack, a well-informed police source said Thursday.

Deputy Police Commissioner General Pol Col Sriwarah Rangsipramkul said a Thai and foreigner have been arrested abroad and the public prosecutors and Foreign Ministry are in process of seeking their extradition.

But Sriwarah refused to elaborate and to identify the two suspects.

The source said the two suspects were Emrash Davutoglu a Turkish man, and his Thai wife, Wanna Suanson.

The two were suspected of providing accommodation to accomplices in the bombing attack.

What about Somyot's scapegoat "Aod"? Whatever happened to him, or was he just a fictitious character so Somyot could walk away from the job without losing face over a botched investigation that failed to uncover (or covered up) the ISIS connection to the bombing?

Agreed, 17 people is a bit of over-kill.

Don't worry "zaphod reborn", the Thai authorities will eventually turn this into a plot conceived and carried out 100% by the red shirts. They just haven't worked out the details yet.

According to Srivara, "I cannot give more details on this as it is a sensitive matter and could impact diplomatic relationships".

How? If people have been arrested by a foreign country in connection with the terrorist attack, would not this imply that that nation plans to cooperate with Thailand regarding any extradition process. Only stumbling block could be the possibility of the death penalty for the suspects.

BANGKOK: -- More Erawan Shrine bombing suspects sought by the police have been arrested in a foreign country, said Pol Gen Srivara Rangsipromnakul, the deputy chief of the National Police Office, on Thursday.

The suspects include Thai and foreigners and the Foreign Ministry and the Office of the Attorney-General have been coordinating with their counterparts in the foreign country for their extradition to Thailand to stand trial, he said.

The deputy police chief declined to offer any more details about the suspects claiming that it is a matter of national security and international relations.

So far, only two Uighur suspects have been arrested in connection with the August bomb explosion at the Erawan Shrine in Ratchaprasong shopping district which left over 20 dead and more than 100 injured.

17 people to build a bomb?

Where did you get that information from.

I read "in connection with the bombing", which covers a host of things. Only, place I read "17 people to build a bomb", was written by you. I may have missed it, so please advise. Thanks

Turkeys on the Radar at the moment, so it's about time they handed over the two suspects, the thai woman and her husband.

Their intelligence in Turkey is non existant when it comes to oil trucks coming across the border from syria.

Im glad they are not terrorists as they would have fled to syria otherwise.

With the Paris shooting murders I imagine every western country will be happy to hand over "even suspects" to Thailand for the Shrine bombing.

I doubt there will be any big delays and long court battles about it, most likely the Thai Police evidence will be enough in this period of darkness.

Shooters and bombers will be arrested and deported or extradited if you like. Especially to countries who still have the death penalty by countries who don't!.

Good on them.

So suspects guilty until proven innocent? I don't see that happening, most countries would require concrete evidence and even then would be very reticent to send anyone here.

In addition I don't think evidence from the Thai police has a very good international reputation.

Yes and not forgetting a couple of 5' nothing Burmese migrants that must have been involved too.

Although no connection has been made between the last bomb and the cycling event the day before is it safe to visit Bangkok during the next cycling event? Just wonder if there is any travel advice on this?

I don't see the turks sharing the view of a religious bombing as a crime.

But they are probably for sale nonetheless.

Hot potato in an already complex scene.
