B visas, extensions and work permits - anyone experiencing problems?

Featured Replies

Is anyone experiencing a dramatic increase in paperwork and general bureaucracy getting their visas sorted at present?

Nope...same old same old. Work permit, teaching waiver, extension all same as last time

Can you provide detail about this "dramatic increase in paperwork and general bureaucracy"?

Not yet... I'm getting reports from the tax office and other depts of unusual requests from immigration.

As far as I'm aware this is not concerning teachers at least at government schools.

Did my annual work (non teacher) extension a few months ago and handed in my work permit renewal application just yesterday. There were no surprises or new requirements for either. The only difference was that this was the first time immigration made a visit to the office a few days after application.

Has anyone heard of the 45 day rule regarding applying for a B visa extension?

According to my immigration officer they now won't issue extensions until after 45 days have elapsed on the original visa.

I have aslksdo heard of immigration wanting photos of workplace and visiting workplace as well as tax records for the CURRENT year.

I've also been told of married couples renewing the mnarriagfe visa who have been asked to supply phoitos of themselves at home yet again.

There has always been the rule that you cannot apply for an extension until the last 30 days or 45 days at some offices now of your entry or current extension.

Immigration visiting the work place or wanting photos at some offices is not new.

Photos have always been required for every extension of stay based upon marriage.

actually there are so many rules and regs, I'm sure you could say that about a lot of them....my concern is that tImmigration has suddenly beome far more bueaucratic than before and of course can decide to "go by the book" when for many people this has not or never been the case.
