put triple glass windows

One for reason for not putting triple-glazed windows is that even double-glazed windows are hard to find here (at least in good quality with decent but slender aluminium frames, and with seals that merit their name), and very expensive as well.

We put double glazed tinted glass windows and doors in our house. Noise not a problem, but keeps the heat out and the AC in!

We have large windows and doors so UPVC is not a space issue. You only need epoxy coted aluminum if you have portholes biggrin.png

Got ours from Tom at ARC

I disagree. My patio windows are very large indeed but I really dont want ugly thick PVC frames spoiling the view. Aluminium frames are less than half the thickness. No frames at all would be even better, but not practical.

I was not very impressed by their attitude, which reflects the fact that they have a near-monopoly for good quality aluminium windows in town.

I found a supplier of aluminum sliding glass doors here in Thailand that has decent profile systems. Their SC95N and SC95TT sliding systems can hold glass 6 mm to 24 mm thick, up to 150 Kg. per shutter, according to their specs. The company is Crystal View Windows and Doors located in Thasai, Muang, Nonthaburi. I'm trying to find if they have supplier/installer in Pattaya.

What's your opinion of the systems? Specs are attached.

That's a good find that I didnt know about.

There are some others worth a look:

http://www.majestec.co.th/

Some of those do specialised doors and windows rather than standard double-glazed units.

Finding good quality glass for such things is very easy, Thai Asahi Glass (TAG) is a market leader. Finding the frames and have the units made up is another story, I abandoned such a project because I couldn't find the latter.

True indeed. The glass is standard and bought in. It's the frames and expertise that are hard to find.

I looked at their website. Seems to be decent quality. I would always like to see the things in person before ordering though, as a lot depends on the quality of the seals and moving parts.

I am in the process of fitting double glazing. The more you specify the dearer the price, and you can go to mad with it all.

I will keep you posted as to how it all goes in the next couple of weeks.

Aluminum frames? How thick is the glass? How big are the doors? What are your specs? How much are paying?

Is this replacement or new build?

It would certainly be interesting to have more details and see some pictures of the installation, especially if it is for replacement units.

It seems reasonable to pay extra for having refinements like tints, thicker/different glass, reflective coatings etc.

  • 1 month later...

I have had my new windows fitted. All went well.

Spec - hard to say - just know that a first class installation job took place. Everything works like it should - they cut the noise out and my electric bill has been reduced. I am the only one I know with double glazing so it has been a risk that I feel has paid off.

The one thing that amazed me was that I did not know I had a noise problem., When the windows are shut the background noise is cut out. I still here louder noises, but otherwise the room now feels like it could be anywhere in the world, before I knew I was in Pattaya.

The double glazing units feel secure, and I am pleased I chose them over Single glazed windows, definitely worth the extra.

Very happy

As yours is a positive recommendation, it's safe to name the supplier/installer under Thailand's draconian libel and defamation laws...so will you do so?

I'm glad you are pleased but for the benefit of others perhaps you could describe the main spec (glass thickness, whether gas-filled or air-filled, brand of the frames) and indicate whether they are made from aluminium or PVC? This should be clear from the bill even if you did not discuss it with the vendor (which seems unlikely).

The sizes and prices would also be of interest, even if you dont want to name the supplier for whatever reason.

I had Andersen's on my house in Cali. Tempered double pane with argon.

The argon will probably leak over time and cause moister to enter between the panes, which will obscure the view.

If you want 'sound windows', you need glass of different thicknesses so the sound waves have to change frequency to get through. Two panes is needed, three panes is better. think; thin, thicker, thickest.

You can probably build frames from a hardwood, not use argon and get the job done at a better price. You'll need some good quality caulk and some wood trim to cover the edges where the glass sits in the frames.

I've hit tempered glass with a framing hammer. Most of the time, it won't break unless you hit the corners.

I am happy with my windows and the job that was done. The end result is good enough for me. I will name the supplier (the person I dealt with) But I want to make it clear that I am no expert and as such, what I maybe content with, others may not. I do not know about gasses, and different qualities. What I know is that two different thicknesses of glass was used to deaden sound as recommended by the supplier. I have tinted reflective in the bedroom with slight tint in living room. Everyone that has seen them has commented on how nice they are. I will not give the price I paid as that varies depending on the job, but it was within what I was expecting to pay. What I will say is that the job was on time, and I was happy with the service and the end result, but that is no guarantee others will be equally as happy.

The firm I used was "Trade_Upvc", showroom in Pattaya Klung (center road) near Suk, as you go up it is on the left just after new tut com development.

Hope this helps
