The first of the cafes in Paris to reopen after being struck in the November 13 attacks, A la Bonne Biere, has seen regulars and new clients alike in since this morning.

On that fateful Friday night five people died on the brasserie’s terrace. On this Friday the press turned out to mark the return to service of the staff and customers.

“What will we do to restart? To bounce back? We’ve done some work, repainted the walls to rub out the scars of this nightmare. The café A la Bonne Bière is a meeting place, a place of exchange and sharing. Getting that going again is our goal today,” said the management, which added that a new terrace seating plan had been implemented “for psychological reasons”.

Flowers had been plied high around the brasserie, but these have been cleared to restore the terrace, and a shrine for the victims has also been reduced in size to allow pedestrians free movement.
