AYUTTHAYA: -- A four-year-old girl was attacked and injured by a tiger at an elephant camp in Ayutthaya province yesterday.

The incident happened at Ayodia elephant camp and the girl clawed by the tiger was admitted to Ayutthaya hospital where she received two stitches for the head wound.

According to the camp manager Vinai Charitchuen, the camp has six tigers for outdoor show.

But since yesterday was a holiday, there were lot of visitors to the camp and the tigers were kept inside the cage instead with no show.

But visitors were allowed to see the tigers in the cage.

He said the girl couldn’t see the tigers and her parents then used a chair for her to stand.

She stayed very close to the cage and was then clawed on the head by a tiger.

He apologised the parents for the incident and agreed to take care of all the medical expense, plus a 10,000 baht compensation.

He added the cage would be reinforced to prevent future incident.

I wouldn't call it a Darwin Award. More like a "Need To Be Beat With a Rubber Hose" award.

Wonder which prestigious institutions the parents were schooled...

Parents?

Why does this story not surprise me.

I think the park has a responsibility to ensure people cannot get right up to the cage mesh of their enclosure ... there should be a 1m safe barrier.

They did pay all medical and compensation which is rare in Thailand ..... this is good from them and avoids bad exposure.

The little girl is very lucky indeed, she could have easily ended up looking like a rag doll.

Tiger should be free in Jungle not in the cage

So there was no safety distance fence installed around the cages? Flog the operators!

And the parents allowed their daughter to stand on a chair in immediate proximity to the cage? Flog the parents!

Wild animals are NOT toys! When will stupid people finally learn that fact?

Most unfortunate for the youngster, who suffered for others culpability

But more worrying is the connection with this incident and the planned all new and improved revamp and upgrade of "adventure tourism" in the kingdom

I don't know where to start with this. The brainlessness, complete lack of foresight and gross negligence from all parties is outstanding. The silver lining is that the press didn't self-censor.

It wasn't our fault for making the cages unsafe and leaving a chair lying around. No! There many visitors and tigers feel nervous. 55555. Just unreal how some people are wired.

And then the parents. Can we blame people who have an IQ of 60? I'm not sure. Thank goodness the little girl got away with a few stitches.

No wonder there are no tigers left in the wild, they are all captive in Thai tiger shows. Where is the law protecting these endangered species? Greed rules again. Bloody disgraceful

Two stiches is hardly an attack. Ridiculous. Meanwhile thousands are being kicked, screamed at, abused, allowed to ride around on powerful motorbikes without training or a safety helmet. Kids are wacked with a cane in school for having the wrong shoes on. TIT

If only 2 stitches the kid got very lucky with just a grazed...

They need a barrier for distance - not reinforcement...

I won't bring my child to animal exhibits here - just don't trust the mindset in planning for human interaction as well as inadequate emergency response plans....

Parenting in Thailand another world leader for them to notch up.

Jungle should not be cut down by the army and rich people for profit.

Avoid bad exposure ? What are you talking about? It already happened.

True enough, but at least this one won't end up ground into powder to satisfy some guy's s*x**** needs!!!

Whent to a small zoo here and they had a tiger chained up outside of a cage and people were getting close and taking pictures. In the day time with flashes from their cameras. They didn't know enough to shut the flash off. That just up sets these animals. I heard they give drugs to the animals to keep them calm. Don't know but just what I heard. I would not even get close to them even a elephant ride. They are unpredictable and are wild animals. What a shame they are on display for the greed of money. The King Kong movie comes to mind. A fictional movie but the principal is the same.

It's not that Thai people don't have normal IQ levels, they just don't use the extra +40.

I think it's the same as with not using the headlights on their vehicles at dusk or night, they save electric.

If you release them back into the wild they might meet up with the cobra killers in a previous thread and it will just further reduce their numbers. Where are these creatures safe anymore? Cobra's are no different than tigers both can be lethal. Maybe its a size issue that small cobras are easier to kill than tigers.

Wild animals are NOT toys! When will stupid people finally learn that fact?

Agreed. A little bit of common sense goes a very long way. Why is it others responsibility to ensure your safety. You are aware they have tigers and elephants. These camps always have inherent dangers that come with them. I am pretty smart to know I won't get close to an enclosure that has a animal that is known for killing with one swipe of its paw or crushing a skull with its maw. I feel sorry for the child for having parents that weren't thinking.

Some of them actually believe it saves fuel.

But not pretty smart enough to know these places shouldn't be visited at all..

The girl got lucky! Beat the parents and the camp!

I shot pics with one years ago. The cat came up to my chest. When she jumped up and put her paws on my shoulders, I almost <deleted> a small house! She wanted to play.

i watched that tiger documentary about the temple abbot, what is quite concerning is he said, and i quote: when the tigers get frisky and just let the females into the cage and let them go at it... now there is over 100 tigers at the temple and they keep going missing. but there now seems to be tigers everywhere, i went to Nong nuch gardens last month and there were about 4 tigers there too... All of them were out with tourists being charged to take pics with them... They ll were fully grown and had been trained obviously from a early age to be used to humans... but still... there is more to this captive tiger business in Thailand than people are letting on to...

The Tiger Kingdom in Chiang Mai gets its fair share of people who pay 400 baht to get to pat a tiger. Not for me, I might just be the one a tiger decides tastes good.smile.png

What really surprises me is that there are not more reports like this. I have been to several not-well kept 'zoos' if one can call them as such, in local off the road places and though they don't have Tigers and the like, some of the Monkey breeds are very aggressive. Children are allowed by parents to get so close the single wire mesh enclosure that I've seen children's hair pulled by a monkey.

Number 1 rule of life (though a 4 year old would hardly have the experience), never get close to ANY animal that could do you a lot of damage in a short time if it took the notion :(
