And how are our dear car drivers gonna go to work now, when the roads are blocked???? Lol...

A tailor made excuse on tap, " sorry K. Boss i can't get into work today, very traffic. "

No need to worry about that.. As roads close at noon at most places and after 9 am at others..

So no problem in getting to work...

Only problem is getting home ... As roads will only open back up at 10pm

Bit late in the day to come out with this information, should have been decided ages ago, the Thais wont like it another pee up cancelled!

The possibility of a holiday was announced weeks ago but the decision made with only a couple of days to go but why should the decision makers, or should that be non-decision makers, worry as their day is sorted already, they'll all be out as Lance Armstrong look a likes making sure everybody, especially the media, sees them.

So where a boss rules no day off do you really believe everyone will dutifully report and face a nightmare going home rather than doing their damndest to get the holiday and a long weekend ?

My company located on Sathorn finally succumbed to the relentless pressure piled on by the government 'highly encouraging' employers to allow their staff to pay respect to HM and 11th was declared as a holiday this afternoon.

. Hang in there it could change tomorrow.

When they lose a day's pay? Yep, they'll go to work, and put up with the long slog home. Bar hum bug, scrooge has come early in Thailand courtesy of the gov.

Just pointing out the obvious here: forward thinking and planning are not things, Thais have a particular talent in!

About "getting to work is easy- getting home will be difficult": who -in their right mind- believes, that most roads will be closed from 12 noon sharp?

I am willing to offer a bet, that the madness will start early morning, with every Somchai Watchingporn of the RTP trying to take matters into their own hands!

And for getting home: my office is round the corner from Patpong, so in that case, I will be fine!

Now I am just waiting for the alcohol- ban to be announced!coffee1.gif

Where I work Thursday is going to be a holiday......... I'm guessing lot of people will be calling in sick Friday.

And Thursday is a holiday for..............Constitution Day........

Not bad for a country without one.

I will never end being amazed NOT!

And on Victory Monument you can see as a big victory The Battle of Ko Chang which took place on 17 January 1941 during the Franco-Thai War and resulted in a decisive victory by the French over the Royal Thai Navy.

It was a french victory but not ..clap2.gifwhistling.gif

I thought the whole point of doing it on Friday was to give long holiday - given the traffic problems that will occur. If not, they why not just hold it on the Sunday?

The Thai saying comes to mind - I'd rather have a dumb lazy boss than a dumb hard working one. I think we got the latter laugh.png

I'll be riding in Roi Et, not sure of the total count, but I'm number 1003.

I'm not looking forward to the expected temperatures though. 34C mid afternoon.

Last year average Dec temperatures were 23C.

Breaking news from the cabinet...

Since all the roads will be closed and workers will not be able to go back to work Friday, the government has announced that Saturday will not be a week-end day anymore but will also be a working day...

So people can sleep on the job on Friday night; which is considered an improvement as opposed to workers usually sleeping on the job during day time cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

I don't believe it should be a holiday. They could have organised the event last weekend on the Kings actual birthday or even on the Monday which was the substitution day. National holidays cost the economy millions and while it may boost tourism to have 2 long weekends running , how many people would have the money to travel ?

The countries major transport hub Hulampong railway station will be closed during the bike for dad event .This station connect s all points north and south .The Ban SU small station further down the track will be open but will be unable to cope with trains from all over the country.I wonder if the person who recommended closure of the station causing absolute havoc to thousands of people also decided a public holiday was unnecessary

National holidays cost the economy millions? Do you have any proof to back up this assumption?

As for Friday IMO it should have been a national holiday as it's a day to honor HM the King, at the old age of 88 most people wanted this day to celebrate their beloved without having to go to work.

A simple google search will tell you, but you can do it yourself.

I work here and know first hand the disruption that 1 substitute day, a constitution day and now people wanting another holiday has caused this week.

There was ample time to celebrate His Majesty's birthday last Saturday and the bike event could have been planned for the 6th or 7th
