Wuvu2
Anyone have a link to a route map showing street closures in Chiang Mai for the Dec 11 Bike for Dad event?
WinnieTheKhwai
Yes I do. It's basically starting North of town near the provincial government buildings, then goes into town via the Mae Rim road (Chotana), hits Chang Phuak Gate, clockwise around the moat via Thapae Gate, Chiang Mai Gate, left at Suan Dok Gate on to Suthep Road all the way to CMU, through CMU on to Huay Kaew Road turning East towards town again, then left up the Canal Road all the way to the Convention Center. So best to avoid that whole area and approach downtown from the East, South East or South. If you can even get there. Huge cluster#$*&% to do this on a weekday. WinnieTheKhwai
EDIT: I think it starts 3pm. Not sure if people will start going out there sooner though. daoyai
Anyone know what time the roads will be reopened to normal traffic ? Seems a large portion of the city is a no-go zone after 15:00 .... and I need to get across town at 20:30...WTD?
WinnieTheKhwai
Nobody knows. Probably not everyone will start at the same time, or even start or end at the same place. Some people may want to join after work.. It's anyone's guess. I'd keep an eye on the 'Traffic' indication on Google Maps for mobile. If you see a whole lot of red then a major detour may be in order.

silverhawk_usa
The outer ring road (121) from the Mae Rim Rd (107) rd to the Maejo Rd (1001) intersection is backed up at least a kilometer right now. I imagine the 107/121 intersection is a disaster also, but I didn't go that far.

Perhaps even lighter traffic than usual, I had to cross the old town area twice tonight around 6pm: no issues.
