Cancer rates among Cambodia's elderly people will see a nearly 300 per cent increase by 2035, a new study has found. Post Media

Cancer prevalence in Cambodia’s seniors will grow by close to 300 per cent – much faster than in other ASEAN countries – over the next two decades, according to a World Bank report on ageing released on Wednesday.

Even now, certain cancers, such as cervical or liver, have a higher prevalence in Cambodia than any other ASEAN countries, according to Dr Eav Sokha, director of oncology at Calmette Hospital.

Despite Cambodia’s youthful population, low rates of screening, poor access to preventive care and treatment and environmental risk factors are exacerbating the problem, experts say.

Japan's rate is so low because they will all die of cancer long before they reach the age of 65.

I was thinking the same thing, when looking at the totals. Otherwise why so low in Japan?

Much wealthier than any other country in this list (or at least wealth much better distributed) seems like a good reason to me: much better access to preventive healthcare and treatment. Japan's healthcare system is really good.

I think that they might have healthier food as well, but that's just a wild guess.

Japan's rate is so low because they will all die of cancer long before they reach the age of 65.

Japan has the longest average life expectancy in the world due to healthy diet, exercise and strong family/social structure. Many dont get cancer at all hence the low rates.
