CDC will not establish reform & reconciliation committee in new charter
NNT

BANGKOK, 11 December 2015 (NNT) - The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) has revealed that the new charter will not establish a committee on reform and reconciliation.

CDC Spokesperson Udom Rattha-amarit said the charter drafters will instead come up with alternative mechanisms that are accepted by all sides to create national reconciliation without having to resort to military intervention. The CDC will begin discussions on the matter in January next year.

Mr Udom acknowledged that the current version of the charter may not be accepted by some political parties, as these parties already have preconceived notions on how the new charter should be written. However, he urged these parties to keep an open mind, as the CDC is attempting to write a constitution that caters to the interests of the public while ensuring peace and order.

Meanwhile, political parties are welcome to submit their suggestions to the CDC. At this time, the new constitution is currently 70% complete, with 200 sections written so far.

.

...............and all this with absolutely no input from the public whatsoever - I can see why "those parties" will need to keep an open mind.

Well an article on a Commission on Reform and Reconciliation only makes sense if its seen as an ongoing activity which needs to be guarded by the charter.

If it's 'temporarily' it would be better to refer to an organic law which covers the CoRaR. That way there would not be a need to amend the charter upon successful reconciliation and reform.

But when it comes to choosing an electoral system and unelected PM, the CDC's mind is made up. For example Meechai has declared without public concensus that Thailand cannot adopt any existing electoral system in the world, even those from constitutional monarchies of the UK, Japan, Spain, Netheralnds, etc.

The only open mind Meechai has is with those who wear gold stars on their shoulders.
