Where can I buy...?

Does anyone know if/where I can find these items in Chiang Mai??

  • a bathroom scale that will go up to ~325 or 350 lbs (in America I used a Weight Watchers scale)
  • an adapter stand that makes a road bike into an indoor riding bike

Or, is there a good internet Thai reteller that would have these items? (I have heard that purchases made from international retailers are way more expensive because of additional Thai import taxes??)

I also haven't purchased my bicycle yet. I prefer "cruiser" type bicycles with the big/padded seat (for my big/padded butt) and pedal breaks. If you know of a place better than Big C Extra to shop for bicycles, please let me know. I'm trying to lose some weight and get into better shape! :)

Thank you!

You're a big dude....Our scale tops at 130k.....There is a medical store at Tesco Lotus on Hang Dong Rd - maybe ????

Is it possible to use 2 scales if you can't find one? Not trying to be funny - just solve your query.....Chiang Mai is an inconvenient place when you're not sure where to look.....

There's a Marathon Gym equipment place directly across 108 from Airport Plaza on the corner - again a ???? But also might have a stationary stand for your bike.....Possibly a scale....

I got mine at Amorn..digital, goes up to 180 Kg,,was about 300 TBH. Pretty standard disc battery can be replaced for 20 THB. My scale is the clear glass style. It appears that Michael Moore discovered so many fans in CM; he has relocated here.

Try the big pharmacy stores for your scales, they may not carry them in stock but could order in for you. If you have no luck there, there would have to be a nutritionist or similar, their offices should know where to get the heavy duty ones from. Ordering it from or having someone send you them from back home will likely be a lot cheaper but will take longer. I've never been asked to pay customs duty on EMS (registered) packages, your mileage may vary.

As for the bike stand, many moons ago Mr K made one for me (he was a toolmaker in a former life). If you can convey the idea, any of the small metal workshops around town would be able to make one up in no time if you can't buy them at places they sell exercise equipment or if they are very expensive. The bought ones may not be good for the weight load you're talking about, so check carefully - you really don't want it to collapse on you. One thing; even in the lowest gear (or is it the highest) there was no resistance and it was far too easy to ride, so you need something to make it a bit more like hard work. Until he made something to grip the rims of the wheel I held the brake lever in.

(By the time said grip was made I'd given it up as a bad idea and bought a recumbent (which I used every day for about 8 years).)

why waste money on buying new scales that sound like they dont even reach the "get the f** off" limit.

for 1 baht...yes 1 big baht.....go try and see if the ones outside every 7/11 will accomodate you.

another money saving tip from the Eyecatcher, (no charge)

I agree the scales should be easy to find in the medical supply pharmacies opposite Shari Pat (university) hospital.

The recumbent bike is in my opinion far and away the best for exercising on.

If I recall they even have the wide seats.
