FB users face arrest over street racing

BANGKOK: THE Justice Ministry has told police to proceed with taking legal action against administrators of Facebook pages who provide youngsters with street race times and dates.

Wisit Wisitsora-at, chief of the ministry's Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection, said preventing street racing was one of the government's key policies.

Wisit said if police did not seriously implement the measure, he would propose that the justice minister ask Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to use Article 44 of the post-coup interim charter against indifferent officers.

Under the absolute power Article 44 affords Prayut as head of the National Council for Peace and Order, he can force state agencies to follow instructions regardless of their existing authority or the relevant laws.

Wisit said an investigation had found that social media was being used to organise street races.

Talk about stupid... going after the Facebook users. The cops should actually not be saying anything about Facebook and using the intelligence from the postings to go to the race sites and bust the racers.

This can only result in scaring the people to stop using Facebook as the means of communication... but they will surely find another way and the racing will continue.

No problem with this one. They encourage people to beak the law so the cops should go after them.

Letting them arrange the meeting and arresting them on the spot isn't going to work and is more than likely to cause injury or death.

If people want to break the law and think they are being clever doing it on a public network, they will get what they deserve.

And all those who think this is no big deal, would you expect the cops to go after people who advertise selling drugs on facebook ?

This is the first thing I can actually agree with that the government have done so far.

As a business owner, (certainly not here) the first thing you have to learn is that you almost always need employees, and you need give said employees things to do. You simply can't do everything yourself. If you're not able to delegate responsibilities, (for whatever reason) to those employees, they become liabilities.

If it were me in charge (thank Buddha, I'm not) I would use my best solders, dispersed around the country to stop into every immigration office, land transport office, police station and check point to make sure the BIB and other departments were properly doing their job. I would have undercover officers and foreigners work in tandem to infiltrate every market and ride in taxi's to check dual pricing and scams. I would do this everyday, without variance. When I found a turd, I would throw him/her out. No pension. No nothing. Gone. Outta here. Tell your story walkin'.

Simply put, I would delegate. I would use my resources to shake this country to it's core. To wake it up. The parties over, biatch. Time to get busy.

I would do this so I could focus on higher order tasks, like slave labor, the airline industry, illicit capitol outflows, education, the homicide rate, insider trading, impropriety within the judicial system, etc., etc., etc...

The last Thai posting on Facebook in Thailand, please switch off the lights.

Didn't you mean: "The last Thai posting on Facebook in Thailand, please turn yourself in"?

first they came for the Jews, and I was silent because I was not a Jew

then they came for the Socialists, and I did nothing because I was not a Socialist

next they came for the Roman Catholics, the trade unionists, and the men of industry

and once more I did not protest for I was none of these

at last they came for me, and by then there was no one left to stand up on my behalf

Well I suppose it is less effort than actually going to the street races (which are conveniently announced on facebook) and arresting the organisers and racers.

...and someone mentioned my disappearance on facebook, so they came for him too.

No one said anything after that.

What you say is correct but only if there is a political will to reduce street racing and the negative consequences resulting from it.

I imagine what is going on here is Khun Wisit gets an opportunity to self-aggrandize and get his own name and the name of his small department in the Justice Ministry noticed. He also gets a swipe in at the police who he may feel need to learn their place in the grand scheme of things.

Well sure, but I would also expect them to work their way upward from the dealer to find the source and take the drugs off the street at that level.

It is a lot like making a big deal of busting a mule at the airport... it does very little to solve the actual problem.

Well I suppose it is less effort than actually going to the street races (which are conveniently announced on facebook) and arresting the organisers and racers.

I suspect this is absolutely correct, and probably more profitable. Easier to shake down some kid and his parents in their home than it is to chase them on motorcycles through the streets at night.

Please quit making sense your giving me a migraine. The secondary source of income here would dry up and robberies would increase. Best soldiers good luck. They would be biting the hand that feeds them. With the time element your proposal would be a one time corruption charge (of the BIB brigade) people would be transferred the victory bugle would be blown the money platter passed around and then sadly the status quo would re-emerge. Your fighting a phantom here. Well maybe an octopus where you cut off one arm and it regrows. Right idea kudo's to you wrong place. Back to watching Alice In Wonderland.

Look I do get that the govt does not like fb, I mean who does, but rather than try to arrest every dumb dumb who posts on it they should just quit it.

It's what I did and, while trying to arrest those responsible for every dozy pointless post is a magnificent ambition deserving of kudos, it worked.

FB no longer irritates me.

Absolutely correct, no kid gloves, descend on one meeting like a horde, sweep up and document everyone and impound or destroy bikes on the spot.

No more FB posts.

An unfortunate observation of just how things have regressed in junta-controlled Thailand:

"...junta-head can 'force' state agencies to follow instructions 'regardless' of their existing authority or the relevant laws"!

Words may not mean much in Thai, but they have tremendous power in English.

That would only work if you had 100% confidence that the planned raid would not be leaked to those organizing the events by those supposedly raiding the event.

Street racing doesn't happen without some sort of protection.

Best scenario would be to leave the local police (under whose jurisdiction the illegal racing is taking place) in the dark and use the army to act on the intelligence, block the event and conduct the arrests.

If anyone was serious about it.......................wink.png

Yesterday i saw a scooterdriver and his passenger on the highway and they did a new trick, they swapped position while driving 50 km/hr! So the passenger became the driver and the driver the passenger.......facepalm.giffacepalm.gif

It's not really about the preamble. The post is about the prediction.

The Mad Hatter? I used to drink in that bar. Upper West Side in the mid 70's and Columbus.
