A pen, bribes and photos are essential items when travelling these parts for sure

do I need any paperwork or just my passport?

If you have a "non-O visa based on marriage", why do you have to leave the country? Surely the only requirement is the 90 days reporting?

He has a multiple entry non-o visa issued by an embassy or consulate that only allows 90 day entries. You are confusing it with an extension of stay based upon marriage obtained at an immigration office.

Pong nam ron - leave the car at the parking area just before the thai immigration, stamp out of Thailand walk 10-20 yards and see the agents ( fixers) they will deal with everything, just sit and wait for the man to come back with your passport, he will fill in the Thai immigration arrival card, stamp back in and collect car and drive home. its worth the extra little bit for the agents, why walk across the bridge getting hot, just remember some photo's. you will be out of Thailand for 10 minutes tops. Have you done a 60 days visit Thai wife extension

have a good trip

i have looked at Utapao flights. Singapore could be done maybe, but its only about a 45- 60 minute turn around for the aeroplane. Kl would have to be on a sunday and return on the monday.

There are 2 immigrations post next to each other from memory Pong nam ron is the closest Ban packard is further on about 20-30 minutes drive.

There is no bridge!

Please read the above posts by people who have actually been there.

There is a bridge, I took the below photo whilst standing on it. That stream is the de facto boarder separating thailand and cambodia in that area.

However, I cannot stress how bad the advice is to use "fixers"!

Especially with passport theft on the rise again and brokers selling them on to buyers who resemble the passports owner to migrate across other boarders. Really you only have to fill-in a few simple forms and walk over and back. Because of people like you supporting them more and more turn up pestering you non-stop making things more stressful and I am always worried they are trying to distract me so another can pick picket me like a bunch of gypsies.

Hi, do you think that they have good hotels on the cambodia side if I want to stay overnight ?

Thanks.

There are (or used to be) two bigger hotels. Diamond Crown Hotel and Ceasar Hotel.

Hotel map

Yes quite a few now as you can see in the photo.

Sorry, if I want to spend 1 or 2 nights in Cambodia I guess it's more enjoyable near the sea, so do you know how much more I have to drive to go to the closest Cambodia border near Trat ?

And is there any beach location very near the border there ?

thank you so much.

Te only great moderator of this board put this link for borders accepting evisa in another thread

https://goo.gl/WWepdx

so it seems that i could use evisa there ?

Hat Lek, Trat (Thailand) / Cham Yeam, Koh Kong (Cambodia) Checkpoint.

But then how far do i have to go to sleep on a beach ?

Thanks again.

Edited by thailanddogerator

if u want sea trat is it,

i just drove there and entered at Hat Lek last month, easy border BUT u do pay 100 baht/day ur car is in Cambodia,

Make sure car is in ur name

ONLY give them $30 for ur tourist visa.

Koh Kong is the closest sea in Cambodia, about 30 minutes from the border, plenty of places to stay, and if u fancy there some nice islands offshore

SHV is another 3 hours drive

Pong nam has a nice resort and once ur in Cambodia there only Casinos unless u head to Pailin which is not a great place to stay.

I have entered Cambodia only at Hat Lek/Osmach ( south of Surin) which are the ONLY borders that will allow a thai car in with out advance paperwork

have exited at every border.

NO reason to EVER use a fixer for the border. its a simple as cake in and out so why pay more??

thanks everyone

all of your info combined has been a great help to me and I intend to drive myself to Packard crossing, parking my car Thailand side

Once inside Cambodia I`ll have a look around for an hour then head back through.

I intend to complete the paperwork myself.

2 final questions

1, is the border open from and until the same time each day including the weekends?

(seems a bit odd asking that but as you all know nothing is normal out here.)

2, my 90 days run out on the 22nd Jan but I intend to go on the 10th due to family reasons, will I still receive my 90 days ?

The crossing is open for the same amount of time everyday.

You will get 90 days. You could leave the day after entering, return and still get 90 days.

I went to Ban Pakhad myself the other day. They are constructing new buildings on the Thai side. The border is open 06:00-22:00.

The "fixer" service is not worth it anymore. There used to be a small cafe where you could sit and have a drink in shade while the fixers filled out all your papers, including the Thai immigration form, and went over to the Cambodian side to stamp you in and out. This used to cost 200 baht, not very cheap but if there were lines and you were tired it was worth it. Now the cafe is gone and they want 400 baht! I paid 1300 baht for the Cambodian VISA for which the fixers wanted 1700.

Also noted that there is a new Hotel/Casino on the Cambodian side named Grand JM Hotel.

Thanks for the info. I will do that run tomorrow too. I was there 90 days ago but went with a Visa service. What window did you use to get the visa without using the fixers? Thinking off the top of my head its the one to the left side of the Thai immigration windows?

To get the Cambodia VISA you walk across the border, which consists of a small bridge. The Cambodian immigration with VISA on arrival is on the right side of the road 100 meters passed the bridge.

Ok then thanks. I have an idea where that is.

Back not long ago. We was interesting to say the least. All fine on the Thai side but got the run around on the Camodia side. Crossed over filled the paper work out and got my Cambodia Visa (1400B) Then went for a bite to eat and stop at duty free. As we were leaving the duty free the guy in the van who had just pulled up stop us from walking back saying we didn't have post ports. Said no we do and showed him. He ask how we got here said walked. He just lets us go.

Now the fun part. Go to get stamped out and of course there is a line up from the fixers. Passed my pass port off to the immigration guy he looks at it and says you have 2 visas (second entery this trip) you not stay for one night? No. You need to stay for one night. Ok why, he said visa rules. Great last day I can use my tourist visa. Grab my passport and waited as they were busy. Then saw the immigration guy that got me going on my Cambodia visa. Went over and talked to him and asked why need to stay one night. Same story rules. So said I can't get stamped out then? He said go ask the guy again. By then everyone but one guy had left. Went back asked the guy again. Looked at my passport said need to stay one night. I asked can I get stamped out today? He said you want to leave today? Yes I would like to. Ok 300B then. Said ok then. Passport stamped. All I had was 500B in small stuff. Passed it off to him expecting nothing back. Got change too!

Back to the Thai side and done there in 10 mins. 60 day stamp. Happy now.

I made it for my visa run, a long drive from Bang Saray and the usual lunatics on the road.

It was a bit confusing for me once there but using a bit of common sense I got there and back fine, had a look around a couple of casinos to watch the Thais chucking their Baht about which was amusing. A couple of beers in a street cafe then back again.

Drove back in the dark and pouring rain which was hell but made it back with a new 90 stamp.

once again cheers for all your help putting my mind at rest at guiding me I appreciate your help.wai2.gif

by the way I didnt let anyone apart from immigration touch my passport and filled in all forms myself which went well.

i parked right near the border in a car park with red security barriers for 80 bht and they have a little shortcut straight to immigration

I took US Dollars and didnt even use $1 as everywhere took baht on both sides which surprised me

  • 4 weeks later...

Just did my 90 stamp after driving to Ban Laem Thai side and it is called Daung on the Cambodia boarder side, however on Google maps the town is listed as Kamrieng. Last time I got hassled at the Prum boarder by the Thai's and Cambodian officials even though I have a Non-B multi. you can see my post above so I thought I would got to this boarder this time.

Parking a car is 40 baht I am not sure if that is a day rate but I was there slightly over one hour, its the big parking lot on the right. The lot is right at the boarder. Exiting thailand was easy, no questions from them this time. On the Cam. side this is where it started again to go unpleasant. After walking over the bridge you must get a visa on the right side of the road. They told me to come inside the small office and not use the window. They started with 1,500 baht for the visa before anything forms age given. I had an extra already filled completed ahead of arrival but they would not take it because i used a black felt tip pin and they said do a new one with a blue ball point. I told them I will only pay the $30 official visa fee so I knew the games would begin. They said how long would i stay i said one or two hours. I was going to the casino, I wasn't, but that did not help reduce the price. So after several minutes of arguing I told them $5 extra for the visa including stamping in and out not staying overnight. They accepted that as I was already starting to lose my patience.

So after the visa I was redirected back across the street to get the "entry stamp" and he demanded 200 hundred bath even after telling them i paid the visa officials, he said he was their boss and I would not get in without paying it. I noticed all the thai passports had 100 baht in them from the thai's. So I went back across the street to the visa office and after 10 minutes they were not going to budge so I told them I was going to call and complain to the casino and go to gamble at another boarder crossing. Then one of the he head official said something to the Jr. officer and he took out 100 baht from his wallet and put it in my passport. I gave this to the guy across the street and there was no argument from him about only 100 instead of 200 baht. He gave my passport back with the in and out stamps completed. I went to the casino to have a look around as it is just by the visa office to make is seem I was telling the truth. Also I wanted to buy whiskey. Returning to the thai side later no line and no problem getting the 90 days stamped in.

This is my 5th Cambodian crossing point that i have been to over my 20 years in the area and they always cause grief with the same scams getting a visa and entry stamp. I wish they took the evisa. I have a friend to lives in Cambodia and comes Thailand for short visits. He won't pay any extra ever, but they have made him wait 4 hours before.

I would have to say though that this would be best crossing to drive to from Pattaya as the road is the safest least stressful. From Pattaya I take the new expressway to the regients school and the 36 down to rayong. At Chantaburi the 317 highway double lane up the mountain is almost complete. I guess it took my 3.5 hours or so. The road to poi pet is crazy dangerous now I won't do that again if possible.

What is good about this boarder is on the Cambodian side there is a nice size town to look around and with several drug stores together when entering. Also at the way into the casino there are about 10 duty free liquor cigarette shops which are very competitive with prices. Location on Google maps https://www.google.co.th/maps/place/RO+Pho+Cho+Chanthaburi+Ban+Laem-checkpoint+Rd,+Tambon+Thep+Nimit,+Amphoe+Pong+Nam+Ron,+Chang+Wat+Chanthaburi+22140/@13.0845743,102.4430884,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x3104c8240d1136dd:0xf8cea32d3ab5172c?hl=en

lots of building work now being carried out on the left where the old Thai immigration control was, everything is now on the right hand side, stamp out and in side by side, if you want to DIY, then a walk across no mans land will be required, then the hassel with Cambodian immigration, but you may save a 100 or 200 baht.

My way of thinking is use the 'agents' again on the right hand side, no walking required, have a beer while awaiting passport return. 1,700 baht

good clean toilets ( 5 baht) now in the car park, next to the car wash shop, a small resturant as well ( didn't try)

Why some people still go to Poipet when we all know that it's the worst crossing with Cambodia ?
