Moving Issues

Featured Replies

I will be moving to the NE shortly from BKK.Can I reregister my car and renew my Drivers Lic. in Udon or do I need to make those changes in BKK? Also regarding banking,Will I have to change my bank accts to local branches in order to have complete access to the funds? Then there is Immigration reporting,Do I do my regular 90 day reporting to the Udon office or do I have to notify BKK of my move?

Going in reverse order.

You have to tell immigration when you arrive at the new house.

The landlord also has to report your arrival.

If there is no immigration office you go to the local police station.

The rest follows from there.

There is no need to move you bank account. However it will cost you 10baht

per transaction across regions. Better to open a new account in Udon, then transfer your money across. The bank will advise you.

Driving licence. You will need a new "address" letter when you renew the licence in Udon, other than that it should be quite straight forward.

Check with the office where you get the tax disc in BKK. They will tell you the procedure for moving the registration to Udon. After it is complete you will have new registration plates.

Unless you speak good Thai, take a Thai friend with you for each part, to avoid misunderstandings.
