US models benefit as European car sales accelerate

PARIS: -- European car sales rose by 13.7 percent in November according to industry data, with American models performing well as Volkswagen continues to pay the price of its diesel emissions test-rigging scandal.

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association says registrations topped a million vehicles – rising to 1.12 million from just under 990,000, with Ford and General Motors’ Opel doing well.

VW, Europe’s biggest carmaker by sales but damaged by revelations it cheated US tests, lost over a percentage point of market share, falling to just over 12 percent.

Its sales still edged upwards but by less than its rivals. In Britain however it suffered a 20 percent sales decline.

Chevy Impala...Consumer Reports listed as best large car (excluding super luxury models like Mercedes S Class)... Dodge Durango (best large SUV)...my personal favorites. In the US I drive a great Japanese one, a 2003 Inifiniti Q45 I bought with 65,000 miles on it a few months ago for $11K. Imagine that in Southeast Asia? Forget it. This is what pisses me off about the Thai car market. Relatively speaking, there's nothing but stupid boring subpar Fortuners and a couple of others, or Toyota Corolla and their ilk. Forget about traffic deaths; you die of boredom.
