Smoking to be Prohibited at Public Offices in Bangkok from 2008

BANGKOK: -- A proposed ban on smoking at all Public Offices across Bangkok the capital city of Thailand will come into effect by early 2008 disclosed a senior official from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

The head of BMA's sanitation, Sithisatya Jiemwongpaet, informed the Thai News Agency that the initial reforms have been implemented in the two main buildings, which house the BMA’s headquarters where smoking has already been prohibited in selected areas.

This ban is expected to be imposed across Bangkok in all its government offices by 2008.However officials have divulged that one ‘smoking area’ will be provided to smokers in every building which will ultimately be done away with once the ban becomes binding.

An opinion poll conducted among the work force of the 24 BMA offices located in different vicinities of Bangkok prior to the announcement of the BMA’s decision to impose such a ban, showed that only 17% opposed this smoking ban. Surprisingly, although 26% of the respondents were smokers they indicated a preference to smoke in car parks, cafeterias or toilets rather than their work place!

That shows the social intelligence of the smokers- they don't want to disturb the group majority even though they want to smoke. Good on them!

This is already more or less official policy in most schools, of course. Some schools will not even hire teachers if they find out they are smokers.

I agree. Most smokers are aware of the health risks to other people from their habit. Most smokers if you asked them truthfully would also like to quit the habit. If it wasn't so difficult....

Smokers have seen the writing on the wall already. Besides there are much more interesting ways to die in the LOS anyway. :o

Always reassuring to hear that some non smoker knows exactly what i would like to achieve if i would just have the discipline to do so. Thanks, mum, i feel so taken care of.

By chance, do you have any more insights into my life of which i am not aware of yet?
